Ending phase 1

  • My coach is beginning to ask me if I am ready for phase 2. I must admit while it sounds attractive, I am scared to death. I have settled in well to my new way of eating and am terrified of all of the Christmas parties and just loosing control.

I agreed to phase into 2 after New Years. I am still kinda scared. Any advice from you more experienced folks?
  • hi Calypso, you have amazing stats. Do you mind if I ask you how long it took for u to lose the weight on IP? did you use only IP products?

sorry I can't give you any advise on starting PHase II, I'm only on day 3 myself. I'm also 5 feet and would like to get to 125 SOMEDAY lol. Did you lose every week consistently?
  • You know phase 2 isn't really that different from phase one. The only thing you do different is instead of having a IP packet at lunch you have a protein of your own.. I usually have leftovers, or 2 eggs, or tuna, or deli meat. It adds to your lunch. I love hot spinach salad which uses egss so I eat that and tuna salads or a taco salad, it gives you more of a variety... after all this IS what we are all working towards eating healthy and not the protein packets. It is the next step on your journey, you can still continue to lose weight in phase 2 I did I also lost in phase 3 so all is good. Enjoy it.
  • Trinique, I only used IP and I started June 6th. I was a very slow looser by IP standards. So much so that my original ( notice not current!) coach thought I was cheating. Truth was I wasn't eating enough and not drinking my water early enough in the day so I was frequently hungry. BTW, it took me a long time to feel brave enough to post what my starting weight was relative to my size. Once you start to see losses you get a bit more confident.

2ride, I know about phase 2, that's not what worries me. It's that phase 3 follows rather immediately and I am afraid I will just blow it.
  • Congrats Calypso!!!!
Can't wait to see phase 3 starting

And go for it! You can still retain control and be on phase 2

  • Calypso- you can spend as long on Phase 2 as you want... usually until you reach goal or a bit below. Phase 2 was the phase that I disliked the most to be honest. I enjoyed the variety that Phase 1 packets provided and when Phase 3 hits it's so exciting to be adding in fruits and grains but on the flip side it's terrifying to be adding so many extra calories. It's the natural progression though to move from weight loss to weight maintenance. Phase 2 is still a weight loss phase and there is nothing to be afraid of there. Trust me, that fear you have of 'blowing it' is what will keep you more than honest in Phase 3 and the early stages of Phase 4. I had the same thing and lost in both of those stages because of it. The absolute beauty of this program is that your weight really does level off (maintain) in Phase 3/4. And there is even a day that is incorporated for you to 'blow it' (free day). The thing is, that every week you're required to climb back on the horse after blowing it (Phase 1). Rather than blowing it and having a months long free for all that leads you to your next diet. The repetitive nature of letting loose, reining in and evening out then doing it all over again creates trust (see:confidence) in yourself. And with it happening on a weekly basis rather than monthly or yearly a lot of the negative self talk is demolished. You have obviously abided by the rules of the program as you are nearing your goal weight- just keep following them into maintenance and you will have nothing to worry about. Join us in the maintenance thread when you get there!
  • Capricious thank you so much. I needed to hear from someone that this is "doable" My (current) coach is terrific but did IP to lose 7 lbs after having a kid. It is sometimes hard to imagine that she has ever known fear of weight gain.
