The endo said that her insulin was high-normal, but the hormones were all well within normal range except for prolactin, which was too low. The FSH:LSH ratio was fine this time, too, which was one reason the other doctor diagnosed her with PCOS. Because my daughter has no classic symptoms (i.e., she's not overweight and doesn't have an excess hair problem) except for missed periods (up to five months at a time), and because it runs in families and her half sister has classic symptoms, the endo can't be sure if my daughter does or doesn't have PCOS.
So, my daughter is going back on birth control to regulate her periods, using the patch this time. In three months, the endo will revisit where my daughter is at.
What a roller coaster for a teenager! First to be told she has something that may limit her ability to have children, then to be told that maybe she doesn't. However, the irregular periods do affect fertility, from what the endo said.
