Holiday Company Clothing Suggestions

  • The title should be Company Holiday Party Clothing Suggestions

Well, I just found out that my company is having a party this year, which is wonderful...but since they haven't had an evening party in 4 years I'm at a loss for what to wear.

They're renting a private room at Laundry's. It's not 5 star, nor is it downtown, but I still consider it a nicer place. The party is a Friday night at 7, and it's employee+1 (so no families, just adults).

It's a party, I want to look nice, but I don't want to spend a lot of $$ on an outfit that I'm only going to wear once. I don't want to look over dressed, nor do I want to look under dressed. I would also like something that I can wear during the day at work or on a nice date out without looking like I'm going to the Oscars.

I'm not really a fan of LBDs, but I was thinking that I should do something simple (skirt and sweater) and just bling the h**l out of my accessories (sparkly earrings, scarf, shoes...something, anything...).

Please, any thoughts and suggestions welcome!!!!
  • Not sure what size you are, but I love JCP. Even when I was a size 22 I could usually find a cute dress that fit well. They usually have sales that put their dresses at 50% off... With coupons it could go as low as 75%off.
  • I've worn palazzo pants similar to these with a bright red sweater or nice white blouse with a "Christmassy" looking vest. The shirt & sweater, I could wear with other things, but the pants were mainly for evening wear.

Depending on what type of office you work in, you'll probably see people in jeans with sport jackets all the way to really formal evening wear.
  • I love monochrome (usually for me all black) with some great colored shoes and statement jewelry.

You could do a skirt, pants, a blazer, a wrap shirt, whatever! Even Target has some great clothes nowadays
  • Thanks for all the suggestions!!!!!

Munchy - I really like your suggestion about going monochromatic and dressing it up with fun shoes and bold jewelry! Then I could mix the outfit with my regular wardrobe to dress it down for everyday wear.

jenjen - Those pants are adorable and would look awesome with some bright shoes peaking out of the bottom!

Kat - I never even thought about JCP...you're right they have amazing sales. I'll have to see what they have going on for Black Friday.

I certainly can put all of these ideas together and come up with a great, versatile outfit! Thanks again!
  • I think a black dress with a blazer would be nice! You could always mix and match those pieces with other things for work, and dresses tend to last through more sizes if you wear them with a belt when they get a little looser

Dressing it up with fancy accessories and fun shoes is a good idea, because you can always take off the blingy earrings if you get there and see people in khakis
  • Update:

I found a dress at Burlington for $14.99 on the clearance rack (score!!!!) that has a white satin top, with a black knee length skirt. I am going to wear black shoes and red chunky jewelry for a pop of color!

I thought about red shoes but didn't think they'd look right with black nylons, and since it's an evening party, I didn't think tan nylons would be right.

Unfortunately the dress is too low cut to wear to the office, but that's ok. It was on sale and I needed a going out dress!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I went to 4 different stores before I found it, lol.
  • That sounds awesome - I'm sure you'll look beautiful!
  • I love the sound of your dress and I always think there is nothing sexier than black stockings.
When I was in the midst of losing I needed something for a somewhat elegant party. I bought a long black skirt , at Salvation Army , and a neighbor gave me a cocktail sweater. with heels and the appropriate bling I looked as good as anybody , or as good as an overweight person could look.
