Has this happened to you?

  • I have been doing ww at home for some time now. I have made Mondays my offical weigh in day. Last Monday I weighed myself and was down to 168--which was good that was a loss of 1 pound. Then I weighed myself on Tue and was down to 166.5 and I went WOW this is awesome. I watched my points all week, exercised every day for 60 min of cardio, and kept an eye on the scale which had stayed the same and was really excited for this mornings weigh in. I stepped on the scale and poof I was up to 169!

I was so disappointed! I can't tell you how upset that made me. I really thought that I might even have lost a bit more since I had stepped up my exercise over the weekend.

ok I am done whinning - back to gym and my bag of veggies

I think it happens to all of us. Do you weigh yourself around the same time, every day? Weight fluctuates throughout the day. Is it possible "time of the month" bloating? That gets me every month because my cycle is not regular, I'll just randomly gain a few lbs and get all annoyed, but then realize my TOM is coming. Keep up with the healthy eating and exercising and I bet your numbers will be back down in a day or two.
  • Yes, I have definitely had that happen. It is extremely maddening but it is common.
  • LOL I am of age that TOM is not an issue (hysterectomy 3 years ago) but I am so frustated with flucuations....need to yell at something lol

I always weigh in same time same non clohtes

I want to say a bad word but won't

    maybe it was the popcorn?

    I so want to cuss
  • If your popcorn involved lots of salt, it might very well be water retention
  • That's why the bf and I keep our scale locked in the office between weigh-in days. I weigh in two or three times Monday morning (before bathroom, before shower, before breakfast) but after that the scale goes away and I don't touch it until the next Monday. It's crazy deceptive.

I once weighed in on Sunday night two weeks after I started WW and came in *back at* starting weight. Then I weighed in Monday morning as usual and I had lost 2lbs. That's when I put the scale away. Spare yourself the rollercoaster.
  • Yep, salt could be a big factor. Whoops, sorry about the TOM thing, but even with a hysterectomy, I believe women still fluctuate in hormones, don't they? Either way, it's probably just a bit of water retention. Drink lots of water to flush it out, and you should be golden.
  • Ok just so I messed with my head I got on the scale this morning --- brother down now to 165.5......ok scale is going away until next monday and I will go from there
  • I hate the scale. I fluctuate so much. Just 2 weeks ago I weighed in at a meeting and they said I lost 8.5 pounds, then last week I gained 4 pounds. Which still had me with a total loss of 7.5 pounds since I started WW, about 0.5 pound a week. Not great but at least a loss.

I'm up one week, then way down the next, then way up....

I go by how I feel, how my clothes fit. I take my measurements once every 4-8 weeks and usually something is lower. I've had several people tell me it looks like I've lost weight or something is different.

    Sarah
  • I'm a daily weigher, and this happens to me all the time! Always right in time for Sundays when I record my weight, of course... If I was one who let the daily fluctuations get to me, I'd definitely have to stay off the scale except for one day a week. I'm lucky, I guess, in that watching all the scale movement fascinates me rather than infuriates me.
  • My scale also does body fat, hydration, body fat %, bone density and BMI. I am also starting to track these on the first day of every month. I measured them about 3 weeks ago (day I bought the scale) and then today. My BMI was down 2 points, Body fat was down 3lbs, these are in spite of me not really losing very much in that time. So perhaps if you have other metrics to measure, it'll help you to focus on the overall changes in your body, not just weight.

(This being said, I struggle with the same thing!)
  • I am so glad I am not alone in this craziness! But I am still staying off the scale until next monday my offical weigh in day.
The big question is can I really hold out that long without peeking LOL.

I splurged last night and ate 1 recesses peanutbutter cup. Then bagged up the rest of that nasty halloween candy and brought it to work today. I gave it to the receptionist to pass out to anyone who wants it just so long as it does not come my way.

Yay! I love dumping my extra calories on my coworkers! LOL! I don't tempt the dieters, but who doesn't love candy?!

Good job with the scale. Try putting it away under the bed in the guest room. Put it in a room with carpet, so you can't just sneak it out and then slide it back - you actually have to pick it up and take it to the bathroom (or somewhere with hard floors). If you don't have carpet, then put it on a shelf. Put it somewhere where you can't see it and where you can't sneak a peek.

    Go you!!
