Mild Anxiety

  • Morning All ...I have been having some mild anxiety lately due to some high stress situations in my family ...I have never had any anxiety symptoms before ( although it runs in my family ) so I am new to this and it is really bothersome....I have been having what i would describe as a "heart flutter" or I guess heart palps, for the last few days off and on ...has anyone experienced that? Should I be worried?

I was on 10mgs of Lexapro ( for depression and ocd ) and went up to 20mgs two days ago to try and curb some of the anxiety and stress.

    Thanks,
    Carri
  • I experience heart palpitations during anxiety attacks. I started taking Effexor xr a month ago and it has been life changing for me. I haven't had any panic attacks this whole month and I had been having them 1-2 times a week prior, I do still experience anxiety but it's much more manageable. . It's disabling. It has also helped me with staying on my plan and having less anxiety about food.
  • Thanks hpnodat ...right now they are mild but I dont want it to get out of hand, that is why my Lexapro was doubled up ...hoping I caught it in enough time, plus I am trying to distance myself from the family stress right now
  • I sometimes experience heart palpitations but I've never tied them in with my anxiety. Something new to think about!

What has helped me recently with the palpitations has been kundalini yoga. It's basically controlled breathing with some movement and yoga poses. I use the DVD 'Kundalini Yoga to Detox & Destress with Maya Fiennes'; it's a bit new agey and lovely. Generally, it might help you to take a few minutes and practice some breathing techniques. Just sitting down in a quiet place and breathing deeply through the nose helps a lot. It's what I used to do before the yoga. I found it very relaxing and would help quiet my heart.

Good luck with your family. I hope things improve for you!
  • Carri,
Upping your medication out of nowhere can have all kinds of side effects. Perhaps the reactions you had were simply how your body interacted with the sudden changes. Maybe your doctor can prescribe something for events like this, so that you don't have to change your dosage of your current medications. As someone who's been on mood-altering Rx's before, I definitely understand the struggle. I hope everything clears up.
  • Thanks everyone, I appreciate the help
