Newly diagnosed with PCOS

  • Hi Everyone!

My name is Kristie. Just this past week I as finally diagnosed with PCOS. I also have Endometriosis. I am trying my best to learn as much as possible about this illness as well as trying to figure out what to do to lose weight. My Dr has put me on GlucophageXR and has told me to lose weight. Thanks DOC!

In my confusion of new information i forgot to ask him what he suggested I follow for weight loss. I am currently on WW, but I have a tendency to eat way to many carbs. I have tried Atkins but all the protein got me sick to my tummy

    Any suggestions would be great!

    Thanks
    Kristie
  • Hi Kristie,

I am also battling weight & PCOS. My dr. recommends 20g protein/30g carbs (max) per meal and 2-10g protein snacks daily. So, you may want to experiment lowering your carb intake, not taking them out of your diet totally....I'm trying to do that. I'm also trying to eat carbs with a low GI (glycemic index).

Also, there is a book called the PCOS Diet by Collette Harris. She recommends lowering the carbs as well as the various vitamin/herbal supplements that can help PCOS. There is also a source list at the back of the book. I have just started reading it, so I can't give you too many details, but I think it's worth a read!

    Good luck,

I've heard very positive things about it . It is a high protien low carb diet. But it seems to allow for more tha the Adkins . YOu may want to check it out .
