Plz help hockey season around the corner.

  • Ok so my hockey season starts in 2 weeks. Now ive been training all summer and been on IP without any problem. But now my training camp is around the corner and im starting my season in 2-3 weeks. So my question is, is my carb intake enough to support my energy expendancy level or would i need more.

Usually during my season, i eat alot of good carbs and of course protein and do not take a pound. But now being on IP im thinking i will be really week and will have trouble during games. What should i do. Im really close to my goal but i just want to continue phase one cuz the results are great im almost down under 15% BF and my abs are slowly showing ( wich was my goal). I want to keep OP but just afraid ill be too weak.

    PLZ Help.
  • How far from your weight goal are you?

Did you want to try the work outs and add packets? Are you only doing three packets? I would think you could potentially go up to 5 during training....what does your coach say?

My coach has someone training for a marathon...training camp may be more physical then that but pretty close?
  • There's an athlete's protocol. Do a search or maybe someone will locate it for you. Personally, I would start to phase off right now. Never played hockey but it seems like a very physically demanding sport. To protect myself and be healthy, I would want the good carbs in my body. You will still lose the weight, just not as fast. Phase 3 might be your happy place! After hockey season...phase 1 will still be ther if you need it. Good luck.....
  • thanks guys. I dont have a coach (for that is), but i think phasing out would be the best thing to do my goal weight was 175 now im 170 but wanted to keep going cuz this was going great and found it fairly easy to follow. I think maybe phase 3 would be the ideal place for me. It's going to be trial and error for the next few weeks
  • I agree with groove. I can't imagine performing at that level on phase 1. I once tried to climb a mountain on a low carb diet and my performance was very slow and sad. I ended up almost crawling to the summit. You can always go back to 1 after hockey season!
  • Rooster, being a goaltender takes enough out of you... Please phase out properly and you will do great. Read the Phase 3 and Phase 4(maintenance) links at the top of the page. They will help you phase out properly so you won't gain the weight back. For Phase 2, you are down to 2 packets a day and you use your own protein for lunch and dinner. It is all about planning, since training camp is in 2 weeks, you might want to do phase 2 for a week and then phase 3 (should be done for 2 weeks) then move to phase 4. Good luck and what team do you play for?

It is important to phase out properly. That being said, I lost 4 lbs on Phase 3. So you can still continue to lose in Phase 2 and Phase and Phase 4 for that matter.
  • I would say do one last phase 1 week, switch to phase 2 for a week, the do phase 3 for 2 or 3 weeks. You will be getting a lot more food and carbs on phase 3 and, if you find you are doing well while training you can stay there a little while longer if you are also losing. If you think it isn't enough, switch to phase 4 after 2 or 3 weeks.

Keep in mind, you will want to keep your carbs in a modest range and keep the protein high while you are training and wanting to lose too.

    You will do great!

Thanks for the tips 2riderrollercoast. I think i will phase out properly and see what happens from there. As for my team i play for a correctionnal officers league. Its a league acroos all the penetentiary in canada more specifically Quebec. It's very competitive and i know i will need more fuel to compete at this high caliber. Thank you very much and i will keep you posted on my results and my season stats too
