Love Scales then Hate scales

  • hi everyone

    Iv been away for a while from here but i am back now and enjoying.... did i just say enjoying my new diet lol im lying about the diet of cause but i am loving losing weight

    here's the thing my scales are not playing nicely at the moment on saturday morning i was 184lbs (yay!) then last night they where 196 (boo!) then tonight they where 184 again i will try again tomorrow morning and hopefully they have gone down again, i always take my weight on a saturday morning as my weight for that week but its worrying my scales change so drastically, think its time to get a new set!

    Does any one else have this problem?

    I know things like time of the month etc can add lbs but you see i dont have that problem (health issues) so i know this has nothing to do with, my heads spinning i just want to be slim!!

    If anyone can shed some light on this please tell me

  • maybe your battery is dying? Mine typically varies a few pounds, but if it's more than that, then replacing the battery usually helps. I keep my weights in an excel spreadsheet, which means that it's really easy to see the pattern and not worry about the variation. On a bigger chart, it's easy to see that a couple pounds seemingly gained on the scale mean very little in the long run. For example, here's a chart from the last time I lost weight (the straight line is what my weight would be if I lost a steady 10lbs/month):

  • They are old fashion scales they dont have a battery, i dont know whats going on.
    The chart is a really good idea i used to keep them when i was younger i will give it another go.

  • I would recommend a battery operated scale then! it'll be easier to be accurate! Try find one that gives weight to 1 decimal point - it's helpful to see 184.4 rather than just 184.

  • I also have a set of old fashioned scales and I currently weigh myself three times in a row and take an average as even stepping on and off of them again seems to make a difference !

    I am thinking of investing in some digital ones as I am sure they will be more accurate.

    I have also noticed with my scales that your weight will vary depending on what surface you are weighing yourself on. I weigh myself in the bathroom on the tile flooring, once I weighed myself in the kitchen when we have lino and I was almost a stone heavier !
  • Okay, this might sound super dumb but this happened to me.

    Are your scales on hard flat floor?

    The reason I ask is because I kept some bathroom scales in my room so I could weigh myself when I got up and last thing at night and um... it kept giving me wild numbers... sometimes I was 9 and a half stone and other times I was eleven and a half. I was convinced they were broken but this year when I came home from uni I moved them into the bathroom on a hard floor (instead of my carpeted bedroom) and hey presto, they've been working fine ever since and they match the scale at my doctors.

    So yeah, if you're using analogue scales, don't put them on carpet.
  • first off what you need to do is find a place in the house the scales would be hit off of or moves around. next take something that you are sure of its weight. use that as a control because you will then know if it is working.

    keep weighing yourself once a week in the morning naked and i know this is gross but it has to be said after you have had a poo lol. And keep in mind your weight will fluxuate throughout the day and from day to day because of water and food you ate and also because you may be on or close to your period.
