Ok, trying Atkins. Doing ok....have two MAJOR issues though.
I've eaten oatmeal in the morning for years and really miss it. Not enjoying eating eggs, etc. So much so, thinking on dumping the Atkins plan. I tried some low carb cereal and it was absolutely awful. I look at all the cerals on the market and even keep looking at the back of oatmeal boxes, but carbs are so high.
The other question I have is, isn't there some kind of bread, any bread I could eat once and awhile?
HELP!!!
DEBBIE
Well, bread and oatmeal are NOT on Atkins Induction. How about checking out other low carb diets that do allow them? Schwartzbein allows 15 carbs per meal as does Bernstein. And then there is CALP - you could make breakfast your reward meal.
Also, breakfast does not have to be eggs. Protein shakes and meat left from the night before also work. Check out the recipe section.
It's a Major Adjustment
debp - I felt the same way when starting Atkins. All that heavy food in the morning leaves me feeling a bit sick to my stomach. What I have been doing lately is having cream in my morning coffee which holds me over for a while, and then eating hardboiled eggs at about 10-11am. This way I keep on plan without having to eat a huge fried breakfast in the morning. I also boil the eggs for the week on Sunday, so it makes everything quick and simple.
I hope you find a plan that works for you!

Hi Debp.
I was doing Atkins and really missed my morning cereal or toast....a lot. But it's the first 2 weeks that are hardest. I found it got easier after that.
Now with that said... I now do the Schwarbein Plan. She allows a minimum of 15 gms of carbs per meal to start and then it builds up as you heal. Oatmeal can be in the future! Right now I eat about 60gms of carbs per day (yesterday I ate half a toast with my eggs). I feel good and have lost 10lbs in 3 weeks.
There are so many plans out there. It's a matter of finding one that suits your personality and lifestyle.
Best of luck.....never give up.....keep searching and modifying til you find it!

Hi-I'm Mima from dieting with health problems-I am trying to do low carbs with a reward meal but I have food allergies which make my fibromyalgia go crazy-all dairy-egg whites-soy-I also have diverticulosis and can't eat nuts, lots of raw veggies. Maybe this is not the diet for me but I am losing weight and I'm a real carb addict-Help!!!!
hI MIMMA Welcome to the group!! pop in ans see everybody in the daily cackel they can help. fibro is a good responce to low carb. but let me say that the PPLP (protein Power Life Plan) book has a wonderful section on the leaky gut syndrome (essentially a gut that has all the symptoms of diverticulosis.) and gastritis too
i wouds suggest takeing the book out and reading it. it dies get a bit confusing and in great detail but a great book just the same!!!for the faw vegies cook them!! and nuts can just stall you so you do not have to eat them. and dairy?? the only dairy i eat is cheese on my chilli!!! so no problem there!!!
Welcome mima and debp...
Back to the bread topic, I just found Low Crb bread on the bread aisle in Wal-Mart. Nature's Own brand, 7g carb, 2 fiber, and 50 cal. I just toasted a piece and ate it with some no sugar added PB. Yummy. $2 at our local wal-mart. Not bad. Might just keep DH on plan.

Thanks-I don't eat anything above 2 carbs during the day and then what I want at night. Bought some Morningstar bacon-soy-will try that. Of course, it is so darn cold that that is affecting fibro. Going to swim in a hotel pool today or tomorrowso that should help. Thanks Mima
