Help- improving mile time?

  • School starts up pretty soon...and for the midterm part of the test is the mile *GASP*. But luckily this year I fully intend on acing it. I am I beginner.... I think I'm running a 10 minute mile on average. To get a perfect score I believe you need to get a 7:45. Now I don't know if that's reasonable in the time frame I have. What should I do to improve my mile time? Also what kind of results should I expect? I don't actually have any idea how long it takes to improve your mile time by say.... 15 seconds....

Any advice or tips would be more than welcome! I'm a newbie so any random running/jogging tips would be ah-mazing <3
  • Regular running.
Long distance slow pace mixed with sprints a couple times a week.
Check out running magazine website for tips.
    Hope this helps.
  • id say push yourself, past your mental wall you have setup..... warm up, and go out FAST.... you may suprise your self..... other than that? 800 or 1000 meter repeats at Lactic Acid Threshold tempo...... they should feel fast, but not like sprints... you should be able to DO Them, though might be struggling towards the end..... start with 800 X 4 with 400 to 800 meters recovery jog/walk. Than increase it to 1000m X 4 with recovery... work your way up to 6 of them, over time.........

also, as you drop fat, you will get naturally faster, without even trying..free speed!
  • Sprinting has helped me improve my overall speed and time.
