BalanceLog

  • Does anyone know anything about the Balancelog program? I saw it at Sam's today and I didn't know if it was worth the money. It's supposed to be computer personalized weight loss and nutriton management based on your metabolism.
  • I've not seen the actual program, but the information on their website looks good. I'm guessing this is the same one described at http://www.healthetech.com/corp/consumer/balancelog.jsp ?

It looks like it has many more functions than similar programs or online services. However, $69 seems like a lot to pay to track your diet. Is the Sams price much better?
  • It was $48.00 at Sam's, but I'm not sure if it included the breath analizer that tells you what your metabolic rate is or if you have to go somewhere to get that part done.
  • It doesn't include the breath analyzer (BodyGem) - they are only selling that to "qualified wellness advisors". So of course on top of paying for the kit, you have to shell out more buckaroos to have your metabolism tested.

Effectiveness? IMO the jury is still out on this one. Just because the website looks all nice and professional, or that 'wellness' clinics are using it, doesn't mean that this device is accurate or worthwhile. They do have what they call a "validation abstract" on their site, but that is their OWN study - I'd like to see a few independent studies of this item before I go running out spending my hard-earned dollars on testing and software. Hopefully Consumer Reports or some other reputable outfit will do a reliable study on this BodyGem thing...till then I will wait and see...
  • Actually, they had the Bodygem technique on The Discovery Health channel Body Challenge show a few weeks ago. One of the ladies was on a 1200 calorie diet and had only lost a few pounds. She had the Bodygem analyzer done and upped her calories according to the results and started losing weight much quicker and was eating MORE at the same time. She had only lost about 4 pounds in 4 weeks before the bodygem and she was losing from 1-2 pounds a week after. So I would say that it probably does work.
