Exercise Causing Increase in Anxiety

  • Greetings, I hope you're all doing well. I've been exercising regularly (five days a week for an average of 2 hours) for the past month or so and it seems that since I began attending the gym more frequently and generally being active my night time anxiety has increased! It's a bit ridiculous considering the majority of people I've discussed this with have said exercise in the morning has allowed them to sleep more soundly and reduced their levels of anxiousness. Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this? My legs in particular seem to jolt when I try to stay still in order to fall asleep.

    Thank you in advance! x
  • Could be restless leg syndrome. There is a medication for it.
  • I agree with Susan ... my DH gets that sometimes too; he does a lot of bike-riding and walking, so his legs jerk in bed at night. Maybe some relaxation techniques or reading might help you sleep too.
  • I do some Pilates at night and that helps to relax me b/c it's gentle exercise and quiets my mind too. But restless leg syndrome came to my mind first when I read this thread.
