Confused--Points Help

  • Today and yesterday I made this fruit salad thing for breakfast. One banana, some strawberries (about 2/3 cup), 1/8 cup each of dates, dried cranberries, and raisins, 4 halves of walnuts, and 1 tbsp maple syrup. If fresh fruit is zero points, this meal should be 8 points. When I put it in the recipe builder, it says it's 12 points. Which calculation should I use?
  • I usually just add up the points for the added stuff and leave the fruit at zero. the recipe builder may be taking into account the serving size of the fruit, but imho, it really does matter.

    btw, that sounds delish!
  • It is very tasty! The kids love it, too.
  • The recipe builder works a little differently. It adds in points for Zero Point items, because it calculates ALL the calories/fat/carbs/fiber/protein in ALL the foods and THEN comes out with the Points Plus total.

So if you don't want the fruit counted, then don't add those into the recipe, and instead add the fresh fruit separately on your tracker.
  • Cool. I will count the fruit separately as zero points. If I eat this regularly and stop losing (or start gaining), then I will add the extra points.
  • I thought dried fruit wasn't zero...because of lack of juice?
  • Quote: I thought dried fruit wasn't zero...because of lack of juice?
Correct. Dried fruits aren't zero points.

The banana & strawberries mentioned at the beginning of the recipe would be zero points, because those two items are fresh. The rest add up to points.
