Jumping rope for cardio???

  • I've been reading a lot lately about how jumping rope is starting to be introduced into mainstream fitness. I've always associated this exercise as one that professional athletes like boxers did or kids in elementary school.

It got me to thinking that maybe I should purchase a good quality rope and incorporate it as my main cardio once the winter months are here. I don't have a treadmill and at some point I'll have to stop running outside b/c of all the snow and ice. Maybe I could also use it as my HIIT cardio depending on how fast I jump rope too. Also, I've made good progress with reducing my body fat and I don't want to backslide in the winter months.

Has anyone used a jump rope as a form of cardio? If so, what kinds of results did you get? Just wondering.
  • i have jumped rope and it does bring up my cardio.. but you have to do it for a while.. its fun!!
you can try different tricks like lifting your legs up higher closer to your chest, jumping with both feet or alternate between left and right!
i think any form of exrecise is great!
  • I personally find the idea of jump roping for exercise not fun. That is merely my opinion. I know many people do it and I am slightly envious when I see people doing for like 20 or 30mins straight! I don't think I would ever personally do it though. Maybe one day
