I have just cooked my first family meal in 6 weeks!!!

  • And I didn't cry once
I have avoided cooking my normal family meals and luckily for me my family have been quite supportive of this and pretty much fed themselves for the last 6 weeks!! The reason for this is because it is those LARGE gravy laden stodgy meals that put me here in the first place. Roast dinners that you need rock climbing gear for, meat and potato pie, stew and dumplings and so on......
I looked at my hubby yesterday while he was sat eating his 100th tuna sandwich and felt a pang of guilt and made the decision that today I would cook a proper meal for them. well I made...roast beef, mashed potato's, roasties, stuffing, peas, carrots, cabbage, yorkshire puddings and gravy I didnt nibble as I was dishing the dinner out on to humongous plates for them and then putting tiny bits on to my little side plate...no mashed potato or roasties for me though, just veg, a little bit of meat and 2 whole potatoes
I honestly thought that i would have a tantrum when I sat down to eat with them, but it didn't bother me in the slightest..which is very suprising and yet another personal goal for me this week!! Part of me doesn't want to get too carried away with myself because I know I have the ability to fall off the wagon big time but this is a first for me and another test passed with flying colours. I am sure my hubby and children will be very pleased about this as well
  • Congratulation , now , tell me, what are roasties ?
  • Ha ha... I forgot that yorkshire slang is not always clear to others.
Roasties are basically peeled potatoes cut in half and then cooked in hot fat in the oven to crisp them up...very nice indeed but not good for the hips
  • You mean you have mashed potatoes and roasties at the same meal ?
  • Yes You cannot have a roast dinner in England without roasties! x
  • I don't understant two kinds of potatoes at one meal. I'd have enough trouble with just one.
  • Good for you for learning how to deal with still cooking for your family and allowing yourself to enjoy some of it small quantities. If we are going to be healthy for life, we must find ways to work around these kinds of things.
  • Thankyou Annie xxx
  • WTG, niknaknat!
  • Thankyou Theox xxx
  • Well done niknaknat. That's really good that you have got over the milestone.

bargoo, roasties are basically roast potatoes and a lot of people do have mash and roasties at the same meal, I never quiet understood it either.
  • I think its a south Yorkshire Thing I always had mash and roasties on sunday lunch but now ive moved to west yorkshire it roast potoes only was not happy everyone thought i was wierd!
Well done on resisting the temptation and bet it was nice sitting down as a family eating almost the same meal.
    Keep up the good work!!!
