NSV: Enjoying working out!?

  • Last night, I was really stressing out about some work (I'm in grad school, so stress is a pretty common part of life...). Instead of vegging out with a snack and the tv, I went back to the gym (I had already gone for nearly an hour in the morning) and re-did C25K W1D1 - just to burn some energy. It really helped me focus and center myself, and I was able to head back home and get some good work done.

Today, I woke up with a headache (weird weather gives me migraines...) and opted to sleep in for a bit rather than hit the gym in the morning. I was in a bit of a grumpy mood all day, but when I got home and was able to go to the gym (hit the treadmill for C25K D2 and then worked with some free weights), my whole mood shifted.

I can't believe a) I'm starting to actually love the feeling of going to the gym and b) I may actually be a morning gym person! I have never been a morning person - and I never thought I would be one of those people - but now I enjoy sweating it out and having that bit of "me time" for a bit everyday, and I love how much more energy I get every day from it!
  • I'm glad you enjoy working out!!
I'm getting to that point as well! and i LOVE it!
  • Those are two awesome realizations! I love certain types of exericse (spinning, hiking, easy running) and loath others (lunges)- while I may not always love exercise when I'm actually doing it, I love the way it makes me feel after (and I love that it makes me, y'know, less squishy). Definitely a great stress reliever! I've been known to get a little cranky if I miss my workout.
  • Good for you! I think moving away from emotional eating and finding activities to do instead is one of the major keys to success when it comes to weight loss. Lately I've been cleaning like crazy and not only am I not eating as much BUT my house looks way better!
  • This is great, I can't wait to get to that point!
It takes a little bit of willpower for me to start working out but when I'm done, I want to keep moving! Usually I have something else to do right after, but when that's not the case I do another hour or so of yoga, boxing or whatever I feel like doing.
  • That's a great NSV! I too am I grad student and know the effects of stress (for me, binging). Glad you found a great alternative!
  • I'm starting to be the same way! I woke up this morning thinking to myself, "awesome! I get to go for a run today!" A small part of me was a little shocked by this change of heart, haha. I really do feel like it's a good thing to enjoy working out.. since I spend so much time doing it, I might as well enjoy it!
  • i'm starting to enjoy my running time as well. Actually I dont think I can wait another day without running unless I feel that my body needs to relax. (Just running though. I still dont like other workout activities).

    It's a wonderful feeling

For the morning part, I still need to work on it, since I usually stay up late so being a morning person isn't really easy.
