Did I really just blow it on Day 14?!

  • Ugh. I've done so great for the past 13 days. I really stuck to the plan with only one cheat of having a cupcake. That is...until...today. I have a nasty cold and no desire to cook. So, I somehow I convinced myself that it was "okay" to order carryout. Cheesesteak and fries with cheese sauce to boot! I guess the only redeeming thing I can say about it is that I ate less than I normally would. But when we're talking steak subs and cheese sauce, "redeeming" isn't really part of the equation.

I feel like I should go a few more days on Phase 1 due to my slip up today. What do you all think? Tomorrow technically should be my first day of Phase 2. Any thoughts on how I should go from here? Thanks!

(Please tell me I'm not the only one who thinks being sick is some sort of license to eat the world. This is something I need to overcome because with a four year old in preschool, there's a lot of colds going around this house! I can't let a cold derail me everytime.)
  • I hear you! I always want to eat comfort food when I'm sick. White carbs and sugar release pain relieving chemicals in your brain, so if you aren't feeling great that's why you probably want them. I think perhaps you should do 3 more days of Phase 1 just to get back on track.
  • I agree with Matilda...do a few more days on Phase 1. Perhaps during that time you can start to make your plan regarding easing into Phase 2 slowly. No, you're not the only one who ever did this. What you can do, now that it's happened, is go through the scenario in your mind about what you'll do the next time you get sick. I always have several soups in the freezer so I can pick my favorite. I usually have some sort of black bean, a chicken vegetable, split pea and a lentil/spinach/sweet potato curry. Any of those choices beat a cheesesteak in my book any day.

By the way, I hope you decide to join us. There's lots of support here!
  • Ditto on what Matilda and Debbie said.

And make sure you stick around here too We're all very awesome!!! he he

I've gone off plan more times than I can count. The great thing is that you just brush yourself off and get right back on. We're here for ya Nordie! Keep up the good work, don't let one slip up day turn into a slip up week, month, year...you get the idea.
  • Don't beat yourself up. Start clean with a snack and dinner and then do another 3 days or so. If you beat yourself up, you won't stick to it. Plan out easy eats for tomorrow in case you are still sick (even veggie/chicken broth or minestrone -pasta soups, already been cut veggies etc).
  • Thanks so much for the support, ladies! I have to agree, you are pretty awesome.

Wish I had checked back in here this morning, I may have had a better day. It wasn't horrible, but it didn't feel "right" if that makes sense. Thanks to your suggestions and support I feel ready to take on tomorrow! I deserve to see and feel the payoff of my hardwork, so, I'm powering on!
