New to the forums not new to the weight loss game!

  • As the title of my thread states, I am new here to 3FC but not new to the weight loss game! lol Here is my story: I'm 31 and I've been overweight my whole life and was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic when I was just 18. Still continuing to struggle with my weight my life proceeded as "normal", one yo-yo diet after another with some success and what seems to be even more failures! Well now this weight loss game has become a potential life and death situation for me as I was diagnosed with Brain Cancer in December 2010. I did successfully have a malignant brain tumour removed late Oct of 2010 but I am still living with this disease.

I have been told (and am currently being studied) that there may be a connection between my diabetes and this cancer but let me tell you, there is NOTHING like a scary diagnosis that gives you more motivation than you've EVER had to get healthy. The sad thing is that the "demons" (that's chocolate for me!) are tough to overcome even in spite of my diagnosis. Actually I am locked in the horrible cycle that many people get into. I'm a stress eater and my diagnosis/surgery to say the least has been stressful and so I reach for the chocolate and carb loaded foods even though I know I shouldn't.

That's my story and what brings me here is that I need to read the success stories to know this is possible to attain! And also in hopes of finding a great support system as well. Thanks for listening! Well reading I suppose

Oh and I realize the irony of my screen name lol but it's a name I've used for years and due to my insatiable sweet tooth
  • Hey, SweetTreat! Welcome to 3FC! Sorry to hear you're having such serious health problems. The Dieting with Obstacles board might be a helpful place to check out. Good luck, and I hope to see you around the boards.
  • Welcome, SweetTreat80! I'm sorry to hear about your illness. I'm glad that you're fighting for better health. I haven't been through anything as scary as a brain tumor, but better health is definitely a big motivator for me, too.
  • theox and BudgetBaby, thank you for the kind welcome! Btw, I looked at both of your S-C-G and congrats on what you've achieved so far!
  • Welcome! You must be a very strong woman to face something like that, so I'm sure you will have success in your endeavors here. I've known some women who saw significant improvement in their Diabetes from weight loss, even going as far as to basically be "cured". I hope this happens for you, too!
