Good Morning

I'm catching up on paperwork during my sleepless moments this morning. My mom is having some medical issues and it seems like we'd better be getting back over to help support her situation...especially helping in the yard for a few days. She had a cat scan yesterday and results should be in Tuesday. We haven't decided when to travel yet, but my rescue paperwork is far easier here with speedy internet.

I need a few days of very carefully monitored food as I recover from VBS. I sure missed my good 'ol routine this past week.

Sorry you have to travel again, Debbie. You are a very good daughter to show such support for your mother. It must be very difficult.

Well, my body has definitely decided that 4 a.m. is the new wake-up time! Sleeping until six yesterday was a fluke, I guess. Part of the problem is having way too many things to do. I should get up and do them instead of lying there and stewing.

This morning I need to drive to the next town to pick up a quilt to deliver to a cancer patient who starts radiation on Monday. I may wait until tomorrow to deliver it to her as she will need a friendly visit as well. The good thing is that this will keep me away from the Mill at ten when the week's bread is delivered! On my way out, I'll drop in on the staff with a breadknife, soft butter and a cutting board. They have been good at resisting so far but this week's offering is apple, cinnamon, raisin loaf!

The plants I bought Thursday are still sitting in my car. Maybe I'll get a chance today to get them into the garden - or out of the car at least so they can die in the fresh air!

Mornin', Ruth! I do think part of the early morning problem is too many things. It sounds like you have a few of those things to finish up, too. I hope you have an enjoyable day and that you aren't tempted by the bread. After a week of VBS it doesn't sound good to me.

Oh, Ruth, the apple raisin cinnamon bread sounds AMAZING. Good luck resisting that!! Sorry your internal clock has changed itself. Maybe when the days shorten it will improve?

Lexiss - Good luck with mom, that's got to be difficult helping her make big decisions. Safe travels!

We have a contract on our house!!! We first put it on the market in July '06 (I didn't believe it myself), moved in March '07, and had renters for 20 months in the middle. I can't believe we finally have it!?!? WOO HOO!!! But then, I woke up at 5:30 worrying about the inspection and everything else (it's a newer house, but still, I just can't believe it's happening).

Then my DH tells me that our DS, who just completed 2nd grade, tested at 5th grade levels for almost everything, and the state wants to test him further, for possibly a gifted program. I have mixed feelings about that, but the testing certainly doesn't hurt.

WoW, what a day yesterday! Today shouldn't be as exciting. I go to work for half day, then who-knows-what. I realized I didn't plant limas (oh-my-gosh, they are SO GOOD fresh outta the garden!!!), so I need to see if anyone still has seeds....

Deb, I'll be keeping your Mom in my thoughts that her CT scan doesn't show anything serious. I hope you got all caught up with your paperwork!

Ruth, I woke up at 4 when Jake was getting out of bed, but I just rolled over and went back to dreamland. I don't know why, but I always sleep much better when I have the whole bed to myself. I know your friend will be delighted with the quilt and it will bring her much comfort as she undergoes her treatment. I know the one you sent for Mom gives her immense comfort and peace. You should take your friend a loaf of that scrumptious sounding bread, too. Have a happy day, my friend.

Twynn, Wow, DOUBLE CONGRATULATIONS to you! I saw on FB last night about your house, and you must be so proud of your son!

Jake is wanting to go out for breakfast, but I told him the only thing I'd be able to eat is a veggie filled omelette. No fruit, no toast. It wouldn't be worth the money. I'll go if he insists, but I'd rather not. We have grocery shopping this morning, and we have to go to the hardware store to get some chicken wire for the garden. Some kind of critter is just devastating my summer squash. The darned critter is eating the squash as soon as it forms. I put some Prednascent out, but it hasn't helped at all. The past couple of days I've been sprinkling hot pepper flakes and cayenne pepper on the squash, and that's been helping. But with it raining off and on everyday I have to keep repeating it. So now we're going to put a fence around it and hope it does the trick.

Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear about your mom. You truly are a very good daughter to be so attentive to her. What's VBS?

Twynn, congrats!!!! Excellent news on both fronts. I hear you about feeling hesitant about the gifted program. I know several people who have turned down placements for their kids, but that may have more to do with the way the program is "placed" in other schools here in NY. Even if you decide NOT to go for it, it's still nice to know your kid is a genius!

I did a bunch of cooking last night - I've signed up to cook meals for parishioners in need at my church (one meal for six each month) so last night I made gazpacho and grilled chicken, plus I cooked chicken for my husband's and son's lunches for the next two weeks, plus I cooked chick peas in my crock pot for myself and I boiled eggs for the week. This weekend is really all about getting ready for camp to start on Wednesday and preparing, as much as possible, for being out of town for the next four weekends (and not letting it stress me out). This morning we have a child's party, and then it's off to Ikea for a couple of items (then coming home and installing said items in kitchen). Hope everyone has a great day!

Ruth - Have you tried a notepad by your bed? It helps me to write things down, then sometimes I can go back to sleep.

Linda - I'm not a fan of eating breakfast out. If I did I'd want something very much off plan!

Matilda - Wow, that was a lot of cooking! Four weekends in a row!?

I am sitting in my new desk chair that I ordered in January and it finally arrived and I'm not sure I'm loving it But it gets me up much higher which is ergonomically correct, I guess. Today we have our last roofing bid. Then we can move forward on that. Teen is indeed scheduled for wisdom teeth extraction, coming in July after his trip. Back on the elliptical today and I'm glad since my butt is still very sore from three riding days in a row!

Good morning I see a nap in my future. DW had a gig last night and then there was some celebrating around here. Sadly my internal clock still thought 5:30 was wake-up time. It's supposed to be gray and cool today though, perfect for an afternoon nap. First there will be laundry, cleaning and buying a flat of strawberries for the freezer. It's just been too wet to pick so I'll buy them today and hope to pick another day.

Ruth - I would have a very hard time with fresh bread but your ticker is steadily moving down so I know you can do it! I know exactly what you mean about the plants, sad to say.

Twynn - congratulations!

Cottage - I've had some luck with a spray of cayenne and garlic but it's hard to keep up when it's rainy. The one year I grew soybeans something ate every last bit of plant just days before I could harvest them. Hope the fence helps. Remember woodchucks can jump.

Matilda - How do you cook your chick peas? I'm looking for some new ideas.

Morning! Seems like you are all busy! Me too! I'm down another 2 lbs today (212 now but can't change my sig....still not sure why??)! So that makes 8 since Monday and 20 since March! YAY!!! Feeling good. Have a great weekend!

Cyndi, I just rinse and put in the crock pot with a lot of water (almost to the top) and cook on high for about 5 hours - and done! Works great and no sodium or bpa worries about the chick peas. I also successfully have frozen them in their cooking water which is great for planning ahead.

I woke up so early today - just couldn't sleep. It's going to be a quiet day around here. I'm going to church, then for a walk to exercise, then I have a pedicure scheduled, then we go to Costco. Then home! Hope everyone has a great one.

Wow, Matilda! Last in last night and first in this morning! I have been up since 5:40 but was wandering around elsewhere.

Another night of decent sleep - two in a week really is encouraging. I think the lavender oil in front of the fan is really helping. Catching up on niggles also makes for a more relaxed night, IMHO. This week I tackle the tax return for the Mill which is due the 30th but I refuse to get knotted knickers over that. We do not pay tax (charitable status) but there are still way too many forms to fill.

Baby shower this afternoon and then off to a "family" dinner with Claire and Doug and assorted Church friends, kids and dogs. I hope it's not raining so the "wild" guests can romp outside. There are cattle in the field next door and it's way too funny to see little Jazz try to help the bigger dogs herd the poor beef cattle into the corner of the field. Two of the kids, Jack and Eric, are off to spend the two months of summer with their Dad in Newfoundland so it will be a semi-sad occasion.

Yes, those poor plants are still in the car trunk. Maybe after Church they'll get into the garden.

Darned it Ruth, I thought I was doing great, having some bizarre dream, and DS came in complaining of a bad dream at 6 am. Of course, I could not go back to sleep!!

I'm so excited....bought a new roaster/slow cooker. Mine up and died a couple of weeks ago, so I researched a new one (my DH bought me one a couple of Christmases ago, and it burnt stuff on the warm setting...), and found this: http://www.amazon.com/Nesco-4816-14-...9085179&sr=1-8. Exciting, huh?!?! LOL....my real life friends would think I'm crazy that I'm excited over a kitchen appliance. The reviews were so good, I couldn't resist getting it.

Today we have church, then a church picnic, then who-knows-what. I need to get the DH out of the house though, he gets restless!!

Good morning, Matilda. Your day sounds lovely and relaxing. Enjoy, and perhaps you can fit a nap in there, too.

It looks like a gorgeous day is shaping up here. We ran out of fencing for the garden yesterday (a 50' roll is NOT 50'!), so we're going to finish that project up this morning. We did get the raised bed with the squash in it all fenced in, and that was the main one I was concerned about. I think the villian is a rabbit, as the grandkids were chasing one around the yard last evening.
I think the kids will all be here this afternoon, and we'll probably throw something on the grill for supper. I may try to get Mom & Dad to come over, too. Mom's not doing too well all of the sudden, and we're trying to stay hopeful and keep her upbeat.

Who else is up and ready for coffee?

Twynn, you're going to love your Nesco! I used to have 3 of them in different sizes, but have downsized down to one. It's comes in handy for so many occasions, and is great for cooking corn.
