  • Hey everybody! ( In the South we say Hey, although we are still - most of us -- fairly intelligent!) I am new to this site, and thought I would introduce myself and share my story. I am 42 years young, a single mom, one teenage son, one large lab / small pony. I've been on Medifast (MF) for almost 11 weeks, and to date, have lost 52 life-sucking pounds!!! I started the plan in a state of severe unhealthiness: 320 pounds, down and out, scary high bp, high cholesterol, pre-diabetic, and having terrifying chest pains! On the advice of my doctor, who had done the plan with great success, I started MF. After 3 weeks, I had lost 22 lbs. and my bp, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels were all normal / healthy! I felt like a had discovered a new me, one that was hopeful, and that could begin to see the sun through the clouds!

I continued to lose steadily each week, however for several weeks, I skipped a few meals due to a crazy hectic time in my personal and professional life, and for those 2 weeks, my weight loss slowed to 3 lbs./ wk. However, I still lost weight, and I didn't give up. I started writing my times to eat each meal on the board at school, let my upper elementary students tinker with my cell phone and set my alarm to remind me to eat, wrote the times to eat each PCMR on the top of the package in PURPLE GLITTER INK and began to take better care of me! I also started doing little motivational things to up my self esteem, like giving myself a pedicure, using a soothing, pleasant smelling body lotion, getting a cute haircut, etc. This really helped. Also, the daily compliments about my appearance helped as well.

Now, at almost 11 weeks, I have reaped so many benefits from embarking upon this journey. My turkey wattle is gone, my bat wings are not as flappy, I have increased stamina, endurance, and energy. Also, I just feel more prepared to take on the rigors and challenges of this crazy, beautiful world we live in. I have hope for the future -- for myself and for my son. I appreciate things more. Food tastes better. I can finally glimpse all that I can be, rather than moan and groan over all that I am not. I know that with hard work, patience, and perseverance, I will succeed in reaching my weight loss goals, and my ultimate goal of living a live without limitations is finally within my reach!

If I can do it, so can you! My life has been difficult, and trust me, that is a huge understatement. Everyone has their own demons and roadblocks, but this plan really does work, if you work it. So stop making excuses, give MF an honest try, and I predict you will succeed beyond your wildest imaginings! I believe in all of you!!! Best wishes, hugs, JOY!!!

I've been putzing around with different (not very effective) ways to lose weight for a while now and I just got back on Medifast because it's so very effective, nutritious and simple. Not easy but simple!

It's a real upper to see someone having such success. Yeay, you!
  • YAY! You are doing great! Are you doing a full fast or 5 +1 lean and green?

By the way, I loved Virginia...spent a few days there several falls back. Went to Williamsburg, Yorktown, and Jamestown. Beautiful fall foliage, too!
  • Can you all explain medifast. It is high protein/low carb?

    Thanks
  • Wow!! So awesome
  • to cinthia:

Medifast is a meal replacement program. You buy Medifast foods and eat a Medifast meal 5 times a day. The MF meals are a shake, a bar, an oatmeal, a soup, etc. etc.--many different kinds, all prepackaged.

You also eat one "lean & green" meal a day, which consists of 5-7 ounces of a protein food (depending on type--red meat, chicken, fish) and 3 servings of vegetables.

The program comes with complete instructions and lists of foods that are allowed for lean & green and are allowed snacks aside from meals.

The foods are not cheap, but the program works. And it is easy to do. Google medifast and visit the official site.

It is considered a low calorie diet (LCD). The foods are all supplemented so that you get enough vitamins and minerals--it was originally devised as a medically supervised plan.
