Whats the difference???

  • Egg substitues and Fresh Yard eggs ..... Whats the difference and which is better?
  • Egg Beaters (or egg substitute) is 1 PP for 1/4-1/2 Cup and 1 fresh egg is 2 PP.

A fresh egg is just that, fresh.
    Egg substitute has no cholesterol.
Egg sub is made from real eggs (but read the ingredients).
Fresh eggs (whole, nothing added--IE poached or hard boiled) and egg whites are power foods.
    Egg subs are power foods.

I eat both. I don't mind the taste of EB, store brand or name brand. They are convenient. I haven't mastered my technique for making an omelet with EB, but I am still trying. Fresh eggs are nice for baking (easier, no measuring, just cracking). I also like hard boiled eggs on salad or as a snack. And I occasionally crave poached eggs. So I keep both in the house at all times.

BUT I DON'T like the egg whites egg beaters, they have a gross consistency, I can't use them, they yuck me out!
  • I can't stomach egg substitute....grosses me out, I'd rather use the extra points and have a real egg.
If I'm having an omelet I use I whole egg and a couple of extra egg whites for more volume...and heaven forbid if you buy Egg Beaters or something similar and let them expire in the fridge!! I did that, they were only expired by a couple of weeks but they were downright pukey when I had to pour them out!! Consider yourself warned!! LOL
  • Eggs are more nutritious. They are a good source of vitamins, especially if you have access to eggs from free range, pastured chickens.

I never use egg substitute, ever. Always a whole egg. I'll gladly spend the 2 PP on it.
