Hard Tummy

  • So lately, due to a temporary change in location, my eating habits have changed slightly. I'm home with my parents for a bit, and while I'm still keeping just below about 1400 calories a day, I've noticed that my stomach has begun to feel solid like a rock (and not in the good, abs-having sort of way. More like if I had just stuffed myself with food moments ago sort of way, even though I haven't.). Now, I can't figure out if it's gas, or water retention, or what, and I'm looking to see if anyone else has had experience with this, and can offer some suggestions to help with my random prego-belly, because it's really bumming me out!
  • Not to be too much TMI, but have your #2's been regular? My first guess is constipation due to a change in types of foods from what you're used to. I would recommend taking a look at what changed, excess matter in your intestines is the #1 cause of "hard" abdomens, the next ones are less nice, we're talking infection and the like. Gas bloat is also possible. Try a gasX if you think that may be the culprit but avoid chemical laxatives, they only make things worse in the end. If you do have to, get milk of magnesia.
  • My first guess would be gas or constipation.
  • I've experienced that recently, too, and for me it was gas/bloating. I had a bad stomach bug a couple weeks ago, and it's taken its time getting out of my system! - plus... yeah, it's TOM for me. That's NEVER a pleasant experience. Ugh.

Try some Gas-X first. If that doesn't help, try Milk of Magnesia. Usually, constipation is simply a lack of magnesium in your diet, and MoM can clear that up pretty quickly.
  • Thanks! I will give the gasx a try first. I'm hoping it's not just water retention, I don't think I can cut out any more sodium at this point.
