The Belly Fat Cure Diet? OR other low carb/sugar diets

  • My doctor told me I should start a low carb/low sugar/low gi diet while we wait on some test results and really make a plan. A girlfriend of mine suggested The Belly Fat Cure by Jorge Cruise and lent it to me.

So I guess my question is have any of you had success on it?
Would you suggest a different diet/book that goes along the same lines? What would be some tips and or advice you would give me?
Also what are your favorite allowed foods and recipes?

While so far I am enjoying the book and learning a ton I am also finding it a bit overwhelming and appreciate any input!
  • Hi Trish! I have been on the Belly Fat Cure since March of 2010 and have lost about 45 lbs.

I love this plan because it is flexible and not horribly restrictive! We have a thread over in the 'Other Reduced Carb' forum if you want to check it out.

My favorite snacks are almonds, celery, cheese, etc.

Also, DON'T be intimidated by the products in the book! They are just suggestions for those specific recipes. I just shop at the regular grocery stores for my items and fit them into the 15/6 plan.

    Good luck!
  • I have been following the BFC for about four months now and have lost about 25 lbs. So I guess I would say that is very successful - it's a much faster rate of loss than when I was only calorie-counting (and I eat more calories now). I'm interested in hearing about other similar diets but I don't know of any specifically.

I find the BFC is VERY flexible and enjoyable. I struggled with it in the beginning with serving sizes - eating slightly too many grams of carbs or sugar per meal or something - but I find it very easy now that I have my familiar recipes. The only regrettable part of the diet for me has been not being able to eat most fruits. Now that I'm eating berries nearly every day and avocado and tomato several times per week I feel more satisfied.

I think the only real challenge is committing to getting off sugar. Once I get through the first few days of headaches or other sugar withdrawal symptoms I found it very easy to resist all those sugary things I used to enjoy. Now I just enjoy cheeses and fats!

As for the book though, I don't use it at all. I got it from the library at the start of the diet but the system is so simple I didn't need to keep it around. I don't use any of Jorge's recipes because I don't use any sugar substitutes (even stevia or sugar alcohols) or specialty products. I just choose foods and recipes that are naturally low in sugar or slightly alter them so that I'm under the sugar and carb levels necessary for a serving size. For this reason I think it would be fairly interchangeable for me with other moderate-carb, low-sugar diets.

We have a thread for the BFC over under "Carb Counters > Other Reduced Carb Diets."
  • Thanks ladies! Its great to hear first hand how the plan has worked for you! I had my doubts considering that I LOVE a varitey of fruit and did not want to give it up! I will definetly be joining the thread
