Skin Elasticity Question

  • Hi all!

I was wondering if continuously losing and gaining 30 pounds could damage your skin elasticity. I know losing over 50 pounds could cause loose skin, but what about 30?

This will be my third time gaining 20-30 pounds in a month, over the course of 2 years. I’ve never developed stretch marks from gaining weight (just puberty), so I guess this could be an indication that my skin isn’t stretching that much. Maybe? :/

Also, I’m not going from normal to overweight; I’m going from underweight to normal. Not sure if that matters.

Anyways, I just wanted to know what others thought — could this lose/gain cycle cause permanent loss in skin elasticity.

    Thanks!
  • its all genetics...if you've had good luck so far you should be ok. I've lost over 60 lbs and i do not have ANY loose skin..
  • Depends on your genetics and how long you've been overweight. I have terrible hanging skin but a lot of people I know lost just as much weight faster and have no hanging skin to speak of. :/
  • I'm going to jump in with the genetics along with thing such as your overall health/nutrition/skin care.
  • It depends on three factors:
    A. Your skin's age. Do you have wrinkles and tears?
    B. Your excersize. If you didn't lose something staggering excersize can fix small skin looseness. Again it has to do with point A though.
    C. The fat concentration. Were you equally fat on the whole body? or did you have a huge "something". If so you might get skin loose there.

    Of course this is simplified.
