Must Have Advise! Please!

  • Okay, My last post I was all excited about losing 7 pounds from the
7 day fast lost kit, and started getting offend when everyone starting saying it was just water wait and would come back.. BUT it seems like you all were right! I got down to 128 two days ago and today im 131!!! What went wrong? I dont want to pay for diet pills anymore I dont have a whole lot to lose but also i have literally no time to workout! between work/kids ect..

    very frustrated, sad, disappointed.
  • Don't be disappointed. There's no pill to help us magically lose weight. Weight loss is calories in versus calories out.
  • Weight loss boils down to calories in vs. calories out. It takes a deficit of 3500 calories to lose a pound. There's no way a pill can speed up your metabolism so you burn an extra 3500/day. Well, I actually don't know what speed does to your metabolism, but really, is that a route you're willing to go?

You don't need to work out to lose weight. You can do it by diet alone. There are plenty of online calculators that can help you figure out how many calories your body needs, and how many you can eat and still lose weight. I use fitday.com. But don't expect anything to happen very quickly. Especially with only a few pounds to lose, the weight will likely come off slowly.

    Good Luck!
  • Yes - I think you've learned that the only thing you "lose" with the weight loss pills is the money spent on them - sure, they'll strip the water but it'll come right back. Just eat less, move more (doesn't have to be in hour-long sessions at a gym, just 10 mins here and 10 there, etc.) ... you'll get to where you want but if there were a quick fix, every doctor would prescribe that. Stick with it and you'll do fine.
  • As the others said, there's no magic pill or magic solution. If you have no time to workout, then you need to be more diligent about what you eat. But that said, I'm a firm believer that anyone at all can find 20 minutes in their day to workout, even if it's just going for a brisk walk with the kids or doing a weight training workout in your living room.
  • Unfortunately an expensive lesson learned. You have to make time for proper nutrition and exercise if you want any results. There's NO alternative.

You need to either wake up an hour earlier or stay up an hour later and get something in there, along with the right nutrition. There are millions of working moms who have the same hours in the week, you'll need to get past that as an excuse in order to get the results. I know it's hard, I have a toddler myself and it's exhausting, but I can't complain I have no time and then complain I have no results.
  • If it is water weight do you need a diuretic. When I am bloated from my period I take diurex.

If you can't exercise the only other advice I would have is to lower your calories and eliminate carbs.

It is my personal opinion that carbs make me retain water so if they do that to you then that might really help. I mean carbs like crackers, pasta, rice, bread, popcorn. If you can't eliminate them altogether then at least try to eliminate them after 2PM.

    Good Luck!
  • Thank you all, that helps. I had no idea when i decided to try and lose these pounds it was going to be such a difficult journey! lol.

I have a calorie calculator ap on my phone.
Is there any diet or way of eating anyone would recommend.
Should i just have 3 small meals a day? Or is it better to snack on healthy
    things through out the day??
  • At 128lbs and 5'3, you're looking at having to stay tight within your calories (ie. no extra 200-400 calories here & there in a day). I would suggest plain simple calorie counting, enjoying the foods you eat, either 3 meals a day, or 6 small ones, whatever you prefer - it doesn't matter. The last 5-10lbs are quite difficult, I suggest a sustainable calorie counting plan so that you don't fall off the rails later. It's a lot of work but it's worth it.
  • Definately count your calories. I use livestrong.com and I think it has a phone app.

I eat 1200-1500 calories per day and I exercise 6 days a week. I try to keep my carbs under 100 NET CARBS and eat as much protein as I can. I tend to do better when I only eat 3 meals a day. I find I am happier and more satisfied with 3 good sized meals. when I tried smaller meals throughout the day I got hungry more often, ate more calories and found myself continuosly waiting for the next meal.
  • youre small, and without exercise especially you are going to have to go really low in my opinion.... on the plus side, it doesnt seem like you have much experience with dieting (ie; no yo-yoing that can screw your metabolism up) I would go with around 1200 a day. You need a food scale (digital_) and yo need to weigh EVERYTHING that you put into your mouth to make sure yor counts are accurate....looking at those last few pounds, theres no room for guesstimates... if you are off by a few hundred cals you will blow your deficit, guaranteed. Id focus on high(er) protein, and low(er) carb...... 300 cal meals 4X a day, 200 cal snaks 6X a day, 400 cals 3X a day, it doesnt matter. But you have to make sure to count EVERYTHING, including Splenda, or Sugar free gum, and I cant believe its not butter spray. put together a few meal plan options and just rotate the same two or threee choices for every meal... that way there is no guess work, you wont have to worry about what to eat, and the calorie caounts will already be known, plus you can cook in larger batches. a 4 oz chicken breast with 255 grams cooked broccolli (3 oz) is about 220 cals. Throw in an 80 calorie (5 oz) greek yogurt and youve got a high protein, low carb lunch/dinner for 300 cals. I eat the same meals day in/day out so i dont have to think. some people cant live like that though. You dont HAVE to exercise to lose fat, but i agree that saying you are too busy is just an excuse. As a single mom, I went to college full-time, worked full time AND trained for a marathon, running 60+ miles a week. Guess what? i had to wake up at 3 and 4 am to get it in and done, but i WANTED it. No excuses
  • You lost water, you gained back water. Don't look at this like you gained 3 pounds, because you never really lost it to begin with. If you keep off the other 4 you can count yourself very lucky.

As others have said, you are already at a healthy weight so any more tweaking you choose to do is going to take some strict eating. Unfortunately us shorties just don't have high bmr's so it's harder to create that calorie deficit necessary to lose weight.

I can't put down any form of exercise because it has SO many other benefits, but unless you are exercising ALOT it doesn't have nearly the impact on our weight as diet does. How fat we are is determined 80% by what we eat and 20% by exercise. You do have to exercise to be healthy all-around. You don't have to exercise to lose weight.

Actually, there is a drug that will speed up metabolism, quite drastically. But it's illegal and very very dangerous. I won't name in just in case somebody gets tempted, but I will say it's probably not something many people have heard of.

In the first week of a new diet, your body dumps water and also the glycogen from your liver. And that can be a big weight loss- from 5 to 10 lbs. But it's not fat loss, which is what you're seeking, and also water weight and glycogen can get put back ON as fast as they came off- as soon as your diet reverts to normal.

Real fat loss is generally going to be between 1-3 lbs per week.

My doctor told me, "You lose weight with diet, you get fit with exercise." So you don't HAVE to work out to lose weight (but it helps), but you do HAVE to address your diet and it should be a lifestyle change not just a temporary fix in order to get you real results. Maybe start by just finding one area you can tweak and make one change a week to have a healthier diet.
  • Mag-- no drug "speeds up metabolism" whether legal/illegal. What drugs do is give you more ENERGY, which in turn leads to you MOVING more (increasing your NEAT -- Non-exercise activity thermogenisis) which increases yor daily overall burn, which leads to a higher deficit which equals more fat loss. Even something as simple as being figity in your chair more, or tapping your feet all day cuz you took a pill will increase your daily burn. There are also the ones that decrease your appetite, and some that are a combo of both these things.

i repeat no pill INCREASES metabolism........your metabolism is just the intracate network of hormone funtioning in your body, to put it very simply....youre pituitary glad is the center of this hormone regulation.

I mean, ive taken illegal drugs (used to be a meth addict) and YA! i lost weight, ALOT OF WEIGHT. My metabolism didnt speed up, I sped up, and stopped eating of course.
