  • Hey guys. I've missed my period for 4 months now. I'm not pregnant because I'm not sexually active. I know I'm going to get a hoard of "check with your doctor" responses haha. My question is has anyone else here gone months without a period?
  • How old are you?

I went 9 months without a period one time, and I wasn't pregnant. It was when I was in my 30s and I thought I went through early menopause. Month 10 came, and I had a normal period, and have had one every month since then, right on time. I am now 47. Still have the darned thing.
  • I have PCOS, so missed periods are nothing new for me. I went 9 months without a period before my last weight loss effort. I thought I was going through menopause, too. The doctor said no. Turns out that losing weight put my periods right on schedule. I've had one every month for the last 10 months.
  • I used to have EXTREMELY irregular periods before starting birth control pills. I would go 3 or 4 months without a period or with a period that was just like 1 day...and then the next month I would literally have my period all month. The longest period I ever had was 27 days. After talking to my obgyn, he put me on birth control. It also helped to control the horrible menstrual cramps that I was having. They were so bad when I would have my period that I would be curled up in a ball unable to move and I'd puke up anything that I ate.

Like you said, you need to talk to your doctor. I wouldn't worry about it too much, but you still need to see a doctor asap. That way, if there IS something actually wrong, you catch it early enough that it can hopefully be reversed, and if there isn't something wrong you can possibly start taking birth control pills or something to regulate your system.

Same for me with the PCOS and the time frame, except it's Metformin that's finally helping menstruate again. I've heard of women going through body changes and not having periods for a while. I wouldn't freak out, but I would schedule an appointment with a doctor since there are different things that can cause it.
  • hmm...I should look further into PCOS. I mean, I don't miss the cramps, the bleeding, but I'd rather be normal lol. Thank you so much for your feeback guys! Oh yeah, I'm in my mid 20's now
  • I am very irregular as well. I have gone months and months without a period then I will get it twice in a month. Last time I "checked" with my doctor she told me it was because I was so overweight and that it would become regular if I lost weight.

  • I am on the pill and I missed my period for about 6 months recently. I checked with my doctor and she said it was perfectly normal (since I'm on the pill and have been for a long time) and that if I'm not experiencing any other symptoms that she listed, I will be fine.
  • When I was a really competitive runner I would miss my periods during running season...I feel like I've heard that you can miss it if there's a big change in exercise/diet (but I'm not a doctor!).
  • This next month it will be my 6th month without period. It's weird. Ever since I've had my period, it had been irregular but gap months would normally only last 2 to 3 months and not this long.
  • I stopped birth control after 10 years on Christmas day. Had my normal period and nothing since, no matter what the doctor has done. Starting tests next week to see what's up. So it's been close to 5 months for me.
  • It's getting close to a year since I've had one but I'm on the depo shot so that's pretty common. I hope things work out soon for you
  • i haven't had it for about two years. i think i have pcos but it's not yet confirmed altough i have all the symptoms. i'm affraid to go to the doctor.
  • I have PCOS too so I typically go 4+ months without a period when I'm not taking my Metformin. Go to the gyn and get checked out
  • When I was at my high weight I could go 9-10 months without a period... then I'd usually get it a couple months in a row... INTENSELY... and then another 9 months. Never asked a doctor but figured I have PCOS... albeit I got pregnant like the first time I had sex so that symptom didn't really hold... x_x
