Any Type 1 diabetics on the IP?

  • Just looking for advice, Starting Monday. I am worried about low blood sugars and what I'm going to eat if that happens!
Also if you loose the same amount as the average person on IP does?
    Any advice would be great!!
  • Hi -

Have you talked to your doctor about doing IP as a Type 1? If you are insulin dependent (I assume so since you are Type 1?) you should be under close supervision of a physician and use the Alternative plan (with the fruit, dairy, etc.). In my clinic, the general rule is that Type 1 diabetes is a contraindication to the IP program. In other words, Type 1 diabetics aren't put on the program here.

Just wanted to put that out there as I would hate to see you become very ill!!

  • I go in today. They said I have to half all my insulin and I get a grain or fruit at every meal unlike the normal IP program. That was why I was wondering if it was going to be as effective.
  • Hmmm...it sounds like they are tweaking the alternative plan even further. I guess I would have to wonder if it would be as effective. I'm guessing it would be considerably slower than the normal protocol. I'm just really surprised they are putting you on the program to begin with. I wish you the best of luck! Keep in touch with your MD if you have ANY questions!!
