Just wondering, the splenda i just bought is "plus fiber", it says 1g carb, and 1g fiber.
Does this sound right? Would you still count the 1g carb? Thanks
I've been wondering the same thing! In my research, it's always said to get the 'net carbs' to subtract the fiber from the carbs. Does it happen to say what the other ingredients are? As in, the bulking agent? In regular Splenda, it's maltodextrin. I was wondering if in the one with fiber if it is FOS/inulin. Either way, according to the rules, should be zero. Sweeteners are the one thing though that I've been curious about. I use Stevia so not sure if that counts for anything. But I do know that I've been using it, not counting it, and it so far has had no effect. I use the Sweetleaf brand. I wonder if the new book mentions all these new types and brands of sweeteners?
I have the splenda with fiber, and I still count it as 1g carb. I shouldn't be over-indulging in sweetened items anyhow, and counting that carb helps keep me accountable.
Also, the box says it's 1g of "soluble" fiber... I thought we only get to subtract insoluble (indigestible) fiber. Or do I have that backwards?

You are correct, Atkins permits subtracting insoluble (indigestible) fiber only.
Each packet of Splenda (with fiber or without), should be counted as 1 carb. Atkins limits sweetener to 3 packets per day.
I'm not sure... because with Stevia, it's actually not a man made sweetener and with the Splenda, it is and has a 'bulker' unless you buy liquid. I don't use much, but I do know that the Sweetleaf that I use says 0 carbs, and about 0.5 fiber. BUT, it only has Stevia and Inulin in it -- no other chemical bulkers. It's just so confusing! But I am in OWL right now so my carb count is under 40 and it hasn't seemed to bother me so I guess I shouldn't worry. I was just wondering if it was addressed in any of the new books -- I literally have the old version! lol
