I've always had fine (i.e. thin) hair, and not much of it, and a double crown. It's been livable with but now, post-menopause, it's getting even thinner and sparser. I'm not ready yet to be one of those old ladies with shiny heads through their hair!
So I'm seeing the hairdresser asap for a shorter cut but also going for an appointment next week to explore wigs.

Has anyone any experience of wig-wearing, other than as a fashion item, I mean as a necessity? I have the I'm sure typical anxiety about it popping off in a high wind.....

Many years ago I wore wings as a fashion statement and I like them except they were hot.

Sheri on the view TV show wears them a lot and seems to do fine with them

A dermatiologist suggested a biotin supplement to help with thin, fine hair. I am going to try it .

Paula , the cosmetic cop said the best haircut for this type of hair is many,many layers and no blunt ends. I am also going to try that in May.

If all else fails I am going to go really short and spike it to scare the grandchildren. Maybe I will add some temporary pink and green highlights. Let them see what it like when older people act like fools. With my luck they will just say "Cool!" Good Luck , Sheridan

My aunt is wearing one at the moment (chemotherapy) and I know someone else who did (same reason). Oh yes and someone else too! Their wigs are great! Very different from the olden days. You can't tell at all. The second person seemed to manage to teach PE all right, including jumping about outside in windy weather. My aunt is too weak for that, though, and the third person doesn't have that kind of personality.

I hope I'm not overstepping my bounds but my coworker is in her 50s with the same problem (she also has like that 2 hairline thing) and I swear she used this ovation hair therapy and it's growing back in and she's very happy with it. It's a bit involved but she didn't mind.

I'll go for the short hair cut first, although I have such a small quantity of hair that I can't really get layer upon layer.
I'm still about 30lbs off picture 2 - do you think I can get away with going that short already? I think I'll keep a fringe, though.

It looks nice but ... I think it's too early in the year. It's too chilly still IMHO. You could go a bit shorter, carry on losing weight and then go that short in the summer.

Fringe? Yes, probably. I don't know about you but I've got a few lines on my forehead and my fringe hides them a bit. Kind of thing.

My mom wore wigs off and on throughout her life; she had baby-fine, thin hair and sometimes she just liked lots of volume. I think they're fantastic, and though I don't currently wear one, I did after a particularly rotten haircut I gave myself in high school.

I vote yes for your fringe, by the way--you have lovely eyes and the fringe highlights them nicely. I wish I could grow bangs, but I have a widow's peak that makes Eddie Munster's look small and fringe just won't lie properly on me. It sucks that the only part of my face that has lines is a part I can't hide.

I guess I sort of went for it!

It looks great! I was going to say that my favourite of the cuts in your pic is the short cut in pic #2, I think it shows off your lovely face quite nicely. Seeing your current pic I think it was the right way to go.

Oh well done! You don't know until you try. (It takes me a week to wriggle about in a new hair cut and feel at home.)

I like the short pixie cut and I recommend you do some highlights - go for a bit of blonde. My sis has the same issue with her hair. She went short and pixie with short bangs and the blonde tips and streaks with her light brown/grey kinda disguise the view of the scalp and any shine off of it. Sometimes she wears it kinda spikey and sometimes more calm and conservative.

Had a lovely morning at the wig shop yesterday. They're ordering a couple more in for me in specific colours, so I'll probably go back next week.
I have to try and get an appointment with my GP (as rare as hen's teeth) to see if I can get a wig prescription. Otherwise, the one I'm looking at is about £135, not that bad, I guess, although experiencing a bit of a financial drought at the moment.
I'm looking (heaven help me) in the "Raquel Welch" range at the moment, probably a "Wildfire" but they are ordering it in a better colour match so I can tell.
Quite good fun!
