oatmeal points

  • so im eating oatmeal for breakfast, and im a little confused by the points.
    Working it out according to the nutritional tag a 1/2 cup dry is 4 points - in the app/etools, 1 cup is 4 points.
    Is that 1 cup uncooked or prepared? And then should i make 1/2 cup or 1 cup dry? ^_^
  • go by the nutritional info using dry oatmeal. That is the most accurate. That way you know that your half cup of dry = 4 points, and you can then go on to add more or less water, 0 point stuff like canned pumpkin or fruit, etc., without worrying what the measurement of the final bowl is.
  • I count mine as dry oats for 4 points. My oatmeal is usually 6 or 7 points by the time I'm done adding stuff. Once I think it was 10!
  • i add the milk as seperate points. Just trying to get the oatmeal down.. pasta is a similar issue for me... says 2oz... i read thats a cup cooked.. O_o but how much is that dry for those who dont own a kitchen scale

    You need a scale. Pasta comes in 100s of different sizes and shapes so 2 oz of orzo is going to take up less space than 2 oz of ziti or fusilli.

    Or you could take the bag and divide it into as many servings as it says it contains and those would probably be 2 oz. So and 8 oz bag would give you 4 servings, a 16 oz bag or box would give you 8 servings.
  • Totally grab a scale! I bought one at the dollar store, seriously for one dollar. It's not a digital scale, but it is easy to use and eliminates guesswork.

    I do measure stuff dry though, based on what the box lists as nutritional info. For specific brands of stuff and prepackaged/premeasured stuff, the etools are amazing but for things that come in bulk, I measure. Then grab your sharpie and mark the box with the points+ value!

    haha i do this too. I got my calculator out one day and i went on a spree through my cupboards and wrote the points on all the labels so i knew how many points they were to save time. Thats how i found out that Kraft dinner was absolutely horrific for me to eat... sooo bad! 15pts+ for 1/3 of the box... uhhhhh who hasnt sat there and eaten a whole box of KD? i know i used to never again my friends
