too much protein not enough fiber?

  • Not to sound gross but any one else having this problem along their journey? I have not had a proper visit to the restroom in almost three days. (which included weigh in day *cry*) so I know it says I have lost nothing even gained from last weigh in because of this! Any one know what I should do? I am worried about taking a laxative (never had one before and kinda scared of em lol) I have been taking fiber pills but not working plus with my thyroid pills I cant take anything til four hours after taking them. by then I'm at work.

sorry if topic is gross, just need advice.
  • Hi Rebecca,
I have the same problem every once in a while. I use an overnight laxative like Correctol. Even the Walmart brand works good. I will usually take them if I know I don't have to be anywhere the next morning. I usually take 2 of those wonderful little pink pills and it does the trick.

  • I get this problem too. I try to use laxative sparingly because of all the warnings about becoming dependent on them freak me out, but sometimes you just need a good flush to your system. Sometimes the works get jammed up with diet changes. If you're overly concerned you can talk to a doctor but it's not really a big thing. Like I said, diet changes and all.
  • I have this issue ALL the time, but I think it may be for different reasons than yours. Before my lifestyle change, I would go once a day pretty much like clockwork. Now, I only go once every 3-4 days. There are no issues with going (I don't feel like I am constipated), I think I have less waste my body needs to get rid of? I am actually considering talking to my doctor about it since I don't really know.

I eat 90% vegetables & fruit though, so I am all about fiber. Protein makes up 9.5% of the rest of what I eat, and very very little in the way of grains (maybe 2 servings a week, if that).

I have taken laxatives twice in the last 3 months because I was going on 5-6 days without going. On both occasions, there was not a spectacular evacuation or anything... it was completely normal.

I think what I am getting at here is that I agree with Cakegirl27... I think changes in our diets must change our digestion. If you feel OK, and you are going (and not having issues when you do go) I bet you are fine. But if you are worried, or feel ill in any way, talk to your doctor as there might be something else going on.
  • thanks guys I will look into the overnight lax. =) thanks for not making this awkward for me!! You are awesome.
  • On occasion I use a tea called Body Balance Dieter Tea made by Lee. I use it very sparingly!

It contains: Senna leaves, Blackberry leaves, Orange peel, Chicory root and Licorice Root.

    It works every time.

    I hope you feel better!
  • Oh you can also try the natural way: 2 servings of prune juice. My husband swears by it!
  • You may also want to look into the products that soften stool to make it easier to "slide out" rather then a stimulant that MAKES you go...

This was something I was also going to suggest but I was running out the door and cut my post short. The overnight laxatives work if you really need to get it out where as the stool softener helps over a longer period of time.
