Shopping trip NSV (and a disappointment)

  • I was going through clothing sizes like a mad women the past year (from 28/30 down to a 16 in 12 months or so) and even though my weight loss has slowed a bit now, my size has been pretty much staying constant. I've been wearing my 16s for about 3ish months now. (I should also point out that I am in major thirfty/saving mode as there is a house purchase looming in the next 2-3 months). However, all the pinning and belting is starting to look sloppy so I hit Old Navy yesterday for the sale to pick up a couple of items.

I decided to try to see if I could squeeze into a 12 capri pant even though in my heart I knew that wasn't going to happen, so I also grabbed 14s. 14s went on fine. In fact, I was able to pull them down and off without unbuttoning (crazy!). The 12s however... I couldn't pull up high enough past my lower leg to see if they even fit around my waist! What the heck! My calves must be monstrous. I knew I had trouble with Old Navy jeans (loose around the waist, tight in the thigh, really tight in the calf). I guess that goes to show how much weight I have been carrying around has effected my musculature. And now that I have taken up jogging, I don't see the calf size decreasing.

I'm currently wearing one of the two MEDIUM skirts I bought; even though I know that skirts are more forgiving, this is huge for me. A medium! And I didn't even fit in the XL this time last year. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around it.

So a mixed good and bad shopping trip. I guess I just need to find a different cheapy place to get pants from that don't assume everyone's legs taper to a fine point. Any suggestions?
  • I found old Navy's clothes are for people with no shape- I stopped shopping there ages ago.

Honestly walmart sells jeans at good prices for real people- last time I bought 2 size 14 jeans for $14 each and another pair for $9- to me that's a steal!
  • Yeah, OldNavy is so unpredictable with sizing and also quality. Target has some realllly cute stuff for pretty cheap and I can find some stuff at Walmart every once in awhile. The Macy's in my area have some ridiculous clearance prices if you're willing to look around for a bit. Bought some nice new gray pants for $6 (originally like $64!).
  • Try Maurices. Their pants cost a little bit more (around $29) but they offer boot cut, skinny, and flare styles that flatter every shape. They also have a plus size section and most of their stuff is really cute. I also agree with Old Navy jean style's being horrible. I stopped buying jeans there because they are always tight in the calf!

  • Thanks for the thoughts on pants everyone I'll try Target when I next go shoppin' (no Walmarts around here).

I just tried on a friend's of mine jeans. She is in a size 12 jean from Torrid. And they fit me... and they were LOOSE. So, she has some jeans at home that are too tight in her thighs which is where her jeans were loose on me, so I may have gotten some freebie pants after all!
  • Gotta love when companies use wonky shaped people as their fit models. Some places and I hold up a 3x and just start laughing, as those x would perfectly fit a 1x person
