Doing it on my own

  • My membership ends the end of this month and I canceled it for next month. I may later on when we can afford it go to an online membership.
DH has expressed interest in us trying this with the materials I have. I have the DIning Out COmpanion, Food COmpanion, all the getting started stuff, the calculator.

For me the best part of the etools is the recipe builder.
After searching around online it seems that the recipe builder and food search on Calorie COunt comes pretty darn close and its free.

I am hoping with the tools I already purchased plus free online resources we will be good.

    Anyone doing it this way?
I don't feel its cheating because I paid 2 full months PLUS bought the materials.
  • I can definitely understand. I went from being a meetings member to just doing it online.

I'm pretty sure the change to Points Plus wasn't solely based on scientific findings, etc. They know that many purchase the materials and go it alone.

When I actually think about all the money I've spent doing Weight Watchers...it's baffling since I started in 2003 and I'm heavier now than I was then. I know it's all my fault of course.

Either way, it's all about what works for you.
  • I lost 60lbs last year on my own with the oldest form of Weight Watcher's points I've ever encountered. It just took more dedication on my part because:
I didn't have that "I'm paying for this, I'm going to get the most of out it" mentality I have now

In addition, it became really easy for me to start regaining weight because if I didn't want to get on the scale, I just didn't.

So, while I think its totally possible to do it at home, you just have to make sure you're holding yourself accountable
  • I don't think it is cheating since you did pay for the materials. For me...I found that when I tried to do it on my own I didn't succeed. I needed the accountability of meetings but that's just me.
  • ya not cheatin at all. I think whatever will work for you and i dont think there is any harm in trying to see if doing it at home will work out. Do whatever is best for you, thats all that matters. Personally, i really like the meetings and i do find myself being "truer" to myself knowing that i will be weighed in each week. I know that i want to lose the weight SO bad, but its a struggle to not put those foods in my mouth that put me here in the first place. If you find you dont need the meetings, then great for you!
