Hi From A New Fat Chick On The Beach

  • I'm new to the South Beach diet but not to 3 fat chicks. It's hard to believe I first joined up in 2008 and never went too far after that. Every year that goes by my health is getting worse. I'm getting more scared.

I've been dieting for about a month and have lost 13 pounds. I want to now begin the 1st phase of SB along with a few minutes of exercise I might be able to do along the way. Wish me good luck please and more important, the strength to make this a new way of eating and to see it through till goal and beyond. I wish you all the same.
  • Mary. I see that you're just a tiny bit older than I am. I can't say enough good things about this way of eating. It's helped my moods, my inflammation, gotten rid of headaches, and, of course, helped me keep my weight under control for the first time in my life. Stopping in here every day in the Daily Chat, using the recipes, logging my exercise (10 minutes a day to start), and getting and as needed all helped me get and stay where I am. This is a great place and I'm glad you found us
  • to The Beach, justmary! We're happy you've decided to join us here, and look forward to getting to know you. You'll definitely find lots of support and help here to keep you motivated to make this lifestyle change a success. Be sure to read the book first, as it's an essential part of making this plan work.

Good luck, and it's nice to meet you!
  • Welcome! Congrats on the progress you have made so far
  • Welcome Mary! This really is a very healthy way to eat. Make sure to check out all the recipes in this forum. There's a great variety and some of them are amazing!
  • Thanks for the welcome. I'm really excited about starting this plan. I've had a look at a lot of the SB recipes and they look delicious. My biggest problem is going to be my lack of money for a proper food budget but I'll do my best.

    I'll see you all around.

  • I can use all the help and advice I can get.
  • I have to tell you, I was worried about how much a proper food budget would be. However! I have found that I pay a little bit more at the grocery store and save a TON of money because I'm cooking at home & taking to work!

I feel a little sorry for businesses that may go broke now that I'm getting
    healthy:

    McDonalds
    Wendys
    Chili's
    Taco Bell
    Maggie Moos
    Pizza Hut
    Sonic
    Chick Fil A

jk . . . I'm sure they all have quite "healthy" balance sheets but I used to spend upwards of fifteen bucks a day on cr*p - breakfast, lunch and sometimes a sugar fix to get me home in traffic. So, I'm ahead over two hundred fifty dollars a month.

    Not bad.

    Plus, down over thirty pounds.

    GLAD YOU'RE HERE!!!
  • Welcome, Mary!

  • Although I was worried about my food budget when I first started SBD, it's turned out that we spend less on food now, too. I spend a little more on fresh veggies and fruit now but I'm buying much less meat, and pretty much no junkfood or processed/ready made food.

I used to have the bad habit of thinking I needed a snack 'for the ride' every time I was out running errands. Now that I don't buy chips, Little Debbie snacks, soda, candybars etc. at the gas station and every store in town I'm saving cash that way, too.

Good luck to you, and I look forward to getting to know you better.
  • to our beach justmary. Nice to meet you. Here's a little to help get you off to a good start. Be sure and check in often so we can all get to know you.
