Hey y'all, wasnt sure where to put this but I know this forum is fairly active so I thought I'd stick it here.

I am writing a paper on childhood obesity, specifically societies role in the growing obesity epidemic in children within the United States. I plan to cover the obvious like parents eating/purchasing habits, touch on genetics, look at schools in terms of teaching nutrition, school lunches, and physical education classes, and the trend of children being more sedentary in general. as well as not so obvious like unhealthy food being marketed to children.

I've worked in childcare for the past ten years and one thing that drives me nuts are parents using food to shut their kids up when they're upset. It's the easy thing to do, but I definitely think it can very easily lead to emotional eating. I'm writing this on my phone and don't have links to any articles, sorry. That's just from my personal experience.

The book -- Food politics -- esp the school nutrition bit. Some kids rely on school breakfast and lunch, and when school is NOT in session... go hungry or eat crap.

You may consider neighborhood safety too. Because some parents rather keep the kids inside playing video and maybe eating crap than let them run around playing outside because the neighborhood is not safe. Between the two options, fat ALIVE kid is better.

Or the angle of food access -- some neighborhoods HAVE no access to a decent grocery. What can you get besides mc'ds and the corner convinience store? Look up west oakland -- people's grocery and mo' better foods, "grub" coop and other info is available on improving food access.
