Help please - ketosis question for the pros

  • I'm finishing up my 4th week on the program and tonight is the first night I ate out. I think I did ok, I had grilled salmon, broc but there were also some grilled onions. I am going to check regularly to make sure I am still in ketosis. If for some reason I knocked myself out of ketosis how soon does that show on the keto stix? I'm just paranoid and would feel so horrible if I knocked my self out. I don't think I did but I want to be sure.
  • Ketosis is a continuum. Any diet containing less than 100 g. of CHO will cause your liver to produces ketones, although the lower the carbs, the more ketones. Will you have slightly fewer ketones built up in your bloodstream because of the onions? Maybe. Will it matter *at all* for fat loss? Nope. (The cortisol from worrying about grilled onions is likely to do more damage than the grilled onions themselves. )

    PS. Ketostix, which measure ketones in the urine, are imperfect measures of ketones in the bloodstream. They tend to give false negatives.
  • do you remember how weak and hungry you felt when you started IP? if you fall out of ketosis you will feel like that again. Ketostix are not a very accurate measure, trust your body!
