New to ATKINS - not 3FC :)

  • Hello!

Just thought I would introduce myself and say HELLO!

I have been here with 3FC for a while and counting calories off and on - but back on since first of January.

Then - this week my husband when to the doctor and said - LOW CARB DIET NOW..pronto! ..and proceeded to put him on blood pressure med's - so it scared him to actually consider doing something.

So I said we are DOING ATKINS.........and I have been doing my research since Monday of this week...and I need to go buy the book and I have been slowly cutting back his carbs this week (and mine too) we both got the carb headache.

Any advise, or input you can give a newby to Atkins would be GREAT!

Looking forward to sharing with ya'll here!
  • Take something for the headaches- don't suffer through them. Also drink LOTS of water to keep hydrated during this time
  • I am new to Atkins also. I have been on induction almost 4 weeks. If you can make it through the first 3-4 days of induction, you will have it made! I was miserable with headaches right at first. But I feel awesome most of the time now. I am down 10 pounds for the month of Jan and very happy with that. Hoping for another 10 in Feb. :-)

A couple of days ago I had some bad cravings and not sure why. Think I may just need to eat more because I think I was hungry.

    Good luck!!

Eating enough is the key. I was hesitant at first to eat to "satisfaction" -- sometimes I need an awful lot to reach that point. But I eventually found, as time went on, that if I was eating the right things, it took less and less food to reach that point. I still get shocked at long a nice big omelette with lots of good veggies in it will last me! Or a handful nuts here and there...they go a LONG way now.

I heard that the key to not being hungry is eating enough fats! It can take a while to get out of the traditional thinking that fat = bad; once you can get out of that thinking though, and figure out which fats leave you the most satisfied, the rest is golden.

    Welcome aboard and happy weekend!

  • First off, how cool that you and your husband are doing this together! I have been on Atkins for the last month and my bf is still eating normally. It has made it a lot harder, especially when he sits down with a plate of nachos, my favorite!

First thing? Go through the house and get rid of anything that is not "legal". That eliminates temptations. Then of course, grocery shop. I have honestly learned that if I go around the outside of the store, meat, cheese, veggies, I pretty much can pick and choose. I also keep canned meats and frozen veggies in stock. The hardest part for me was getting used to eating that much fat. But believe me, when you figure out your ratios, it does work.

Welcome to Atkins! I think you will love it!
  • to you and yoour husband! Best wishes on your journey.
