  • I am hosting a superbowl party this year and have been tasked with building a HEALTHY snackstadium. I made one last year and it was a big glorious calorie ladden diet trainwreck.

This year I am going to make a low-cal version. My (frat boy) neighbor is making a fatty nasty junk foody one and I want to smash it with the healthy one!

No idea what to make it with! I was thinking vita tops or pita bread for the sides...hummus and salsa endzones...but am open to any and all suggestions!! Any fun low-cal ideas?? There will be at least 30 people to help eat it and I want to spread the non-transfatty love.
  • Great idea. cucumber rounds are always a favorite at my place. There are so many things you can put on them. Do a search for healthy cucumber rounds and you will find a ton of quick easy recipes. I have also picked up some healthy chewy snack bars, cut them into cubes and drizzled a little bit of chocolate on them to make them look nice.
  • OMG, the one to which you link belongs on This Is Why You're Fat. Good luck with cukes and celery sticks
  • Baked cheetos are really good and I found baked Special K cracker chips (30 chips for 110 cals) are delish too (sorta like pringles). I've seen the 'special' cake creators use rice crispy treats in all kinds of shapes. You could go really elaborate!! Turkey breakfast sausage for the 'teams' line up. Be sure to take a picture and post it here!!!
  • I love hummus as well as hot salsa mixed with nonfat plain Greek yogurt for an excellent dip!

Pita triangles, carrots, and endive spears for dipping. Maybe some Special K crackers or other reduced-fat crackers. Special K also has that new baked snack cracker/chip thing lol. It's really good! Haha.
  • Oh wow, I missed the link before... that is just crazy!! I think a veggie one would look WAY better.

    SO YUM!
  • Love it! How about celery sticks vs. baby carrots for the players. fill the stands with green peppers for packer fans, and yellow peppers and fat free black licorice for steelers fans.

Also, from the site in the post above me - the healthy spinach dip would look like grass on the field!

The walls of the stadium could be made with angelfood cake.

Also, please, please post photos when you are done!
  • TOTAL CALORIES: 24,375
    TOTAL GRAMS OF FAT: 1,285

    haha wow....I have no words

As for making a low cal recipe, you can use hummus for the field, and then use fruit and veggies for the stands
  • What about baking your own bread stadium? Could be made of whole wheat or some other tasty bread. http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...paign=shopping

Then maybe you could fill the inside with a tray of hummus and red salsa and green salsa- make veggie stick players?

People can rip off the bread and dip it in the hummus.
  • Love it!! I could definitely make my own bread! I want to do some sweet things too. I was thinking turkey meatballs for the heads of the players (tee hee!) and maybe one part of the field would be yogurt and part of the stands can be fruit? I want it to look nice...would it be totally ghetto to dye the hummus green??
  • check out this new recipe:
http://www.skinnytaste.com/2011/02/s...th-creamy.html you could put the dip on the field. Or something. I'm really looking forward to seeing how yours turns out!
  • I love it, you inspire me to want to make one! haha Post pictures when it's done for sure!
  • They have green hummus at Trader Joe's. This whole idea is so cute. Please do post pictures!
  • Did it work out? I want to throw a super bowl party one day just to be able to make one of these and neither me or my husband have any interest in the sports world.
