Hair removal help/suggestions?

  • Ok, sooo this is kind of a weird question. I'm scared to get a brazillian wax....I just don't know that I could go to some random lady I don't know and have her all up in my business. That being said, I would prefer to be hairless...down there. The problem is that I've tried shaving-I get ingrown hairs, gross looking stubble within a day. I haven't used shaving cream...just soap and water like I do for my legs. Then my friend suggested an epilator-BAD idea! Painful and slow for one. Second: it gave me the same red bumps, ingrown hairs...etc!

Should I just suck it up and go for a wax? Are there other products to use that would prevent the ingrown hairs? Help!
  • Yes, you should suck it up and go for a Brazilian. The results are outstanding!
Look, I don't have any gentle words to share with you regarding feeling embarrassed -- I'm the type of woman who would walk around naked if it was socially acceptable. But seriously, it's like going to a plastic surgeon for a consult on a boob job: they've "seen it all" and don't particularly care what you look like. That's the hurdle YOU have to get over. And you will be SO glad you did.
I especially like a Brazilian because once it's done, it's much easier to maintain the area. (It's sort of like your yardwork: once you've mowed, edged, and weedwhacked, you want to maintain it every so often before it gets overgrown again.)
Once you've been waxed, the wax lady will tell you to gently exfoliate the area every other day or so in order to prevent ingrown hairs. I've never had a problem with ingrowns from waxing.
Go for it - you will feel SO sexy afterwards!
  • Well, how do you feel when you get your yearly exam? The doc is very much all in your business. I agree with FatBurner77, the waxers have seen it all..and they don't care. I was really scared the first time..I do not handle pain very well. But it is totally worth it!!!!

On a side note, I'm considering taking Esthetics, when I move back to AZ.
  • Go for the brazillian, the results are much better than what shaving can do! And you will be smooth for weeks, and it will still look nice and neat for a few additional weeks.

The waxer doesn't care what you look like, but if your hair is really overgrown she may trim it first with some scissors. They generally get you talking like a hairdresser would...make you laugh while they are pulling the hair out.

I'm not gonna lie...it hurts. But it can hurt less if you don't go around TOM. And also take some advil before hand. Once it's over, you'll love the results so much you'll forget all about the pain and want to do it all again. They say it's like childbirth. LOL I don't have kids, so can't speak to that part personally...

Be forewarned, they do the back (between your butt cheeks) too. But as women don't have a lot of hair there, it's the least painful part.
  • Um...

I've only ever had a bikini wax, and I must be allergic to the wax b/c I was absolutely COVERED in huge nasty red bumps for over a week. I was putting aloe gel on many times a day to stop the burning.

So, my suggestion would be to ask if she'll do a trial patch first (free), and if there is no irritation then you'll go back for more. I sure would, if I could. Go back, I mean. I like the cleanliness of a brazillian.

    Good luck!
