Goal Number One!

  • So, I've figured out what I want my first goal to be:

I want to lose 30 pounds by the time I fly out to visit my sister in North Carolina! I plan on going around my birthday, that's mid June. I did the numbers, and that's about 8 pounds a month, 2-3 pounds a week.

    Tentative plan:

~ Work on my binge eating and food quality.
~ Walk to work and back on nice days since it's only two miles round trip.
~ Get up earlier and start my day with at least 10 minutes of Yoga everyday.
~ Drink more water, less juices and diet sodas.
~ Start using dad's Nordic Track at least 90 minutes a week.

Oh, and I have a quick question:

How do you get the tracking thing that people have in their signatures? I know I can't have a signature until I'm at 20 days and 'x' amount of posts, but for future reference
  • Hey girlie, just wondering how you did the math? I'm getting 6 lbs/month when I calculate it (30 lbs divided by ~5 months).

At any rate, it sounds like a very doable goal, and a great thing to work toward! Perfect first goal! I think I shall like to lose ~30 lbs by mid-June along with you!
  • Welcome!

To get your tracker you would click on "User CP" -- on the far left on the purple bar near the top of the screen -- then click on "edit profile" and see the directions at the top of the page.
  • Like shannonmb, I came up with 6 pounds a month. Either 6 or 8 pounds a month sounds doable but please don't get discouraged if you don't lose that much. Any weight loss is a success!

Your tentative plan sounds good. I think that you need to refine your first point "Work on my binge eating and food quality" more. You need something measurable. A good example would be your "Start using dad's Nordic Track at least 90 minutes a week." You keep track of the minutes you use the Nordic Track, so you know if you meet your goal or not. "Work on my binge eating and food quality" is vague. How will you know if you are meeting your goal? Set some type of measurable limit.

My 2 cents worth. You are on the right track!
  • I only counted whole months: Feb. Mar. Apr. May., and rounded up, therefore 8. I'm giving myself the rest of January to work on my habits, then I'm beginning the counting in February. Then I left out the half of June because it makes fractions of pounds. So by doing 30/4, I get a nice even number of 8 a month.

Yeah, sorry I didn't explain that before, lol.

As for the vague sounding goals, it'll formulate more as I get into more of a pattern and the end of January. I have a very off sleeping schedule, so I'm working on that as well, so I'm aiming to narrow things down by the end of the month and definitely get on a better sleep schedule, as that will help out tremendously.
  • Rhapsody, congrats on setting your first goal, you can do it! You are starting off really well by establishing steps that will help you to get to your goal.
