reading material

  • Hey all. I am looking for some reading about diet and nutrition. I am not looking for a fad diet book. I am a vegetarian so a book that emphasizes plants would be good. What arfe your guys' favs?
  • I don't remember it advocating vegetarianism as a lifestyle, but Michael Pollan's In Defense of Food was a pretty decent read.
  • I second In Defense of Food! Also, Superfoods RX is great.
  • Here to third In Defense of Food!
  • Heya,

I come from a vegan point of view but these books I find useful:

Some nice easy to read books are:
The Kind Diet by Alicia Silverstone
Skinny B**** by Freedman & Banouin

A more scientific type book is:
Plant based nutrition and Health by Stephen Walsh PHD
  • I went ahead and got In Defence of Food for my Kindle. It is awesome, very much a reality check, thanks for everyone suggestions.
  • I really liked The Thin Commandments.
  • i second the thin commandments. i love this book and read it over & over for inspiration. i bought it on amazon very reasonable. A GREAT book.

  • I just got in defense of food myself.

    Do you watch documentaries?

I LOVED food inc and killer at large. <<< I'm vegan, but although those docu's aren't veg*n related they are REALLY good.
  • If you are in the mood for some humor to lighten up your diet try How to Eat Like a Hot Chick its actually a great read and while maybe not the most techincal diet book it will give you some good tips and many good laughs! It may not be 100% Veg but praises spinich!
  • Hey thanks for all your ideas. I know have lots to read (yes...I am a huge dork).
