A word to the wise, my husband and I both have had our tonsils out, and while I don't get it often, we still get strep throat. My husband gets it at least once or twice a year, and I had a severe case last year. It was so bad that the doctors thought I had mono! The doctor I had last year wrote me off, saying I couldn't have strep because I didn't have tonsils, but another doctor told me that's a common misconception. You CAN get strep without tonsils. It's a bacterial infection in the throat, not only the tonsils.
I had mine out because of recurrent tonsillitis. They were swelling so badly I couldn't swallow liquids without horrendous pain, and it was flaring up 3 or 4 times a month. I missed a loooot of school because of it. Once they were out, I got sore throats maybe once or twice a year.

I hope you get better very soon! You should start feeling better in a couple of days. I was able to eat some of my birthday cake 3 days after my surgery. (Yep, had mine out right before my 10th birthday)
