Ring Sizing

  • I have 15 pounds left to lose. I have lost a significant amount of weight and my wedding ring and engagement ring are WAY too big. I have been wearing pre-weight gain rings as stand-ins while I lose, but now those (size 5) are getting too loose as well. I wanted to wait until I am done losing to get my rings resized, but I wonder if I am close enough now. Do you think that my ring size will go down again with the last 15 pounds or would you guess that I am safe now to resize?
  • I think you can go ahead and have it sized. I've been having the same problem. The other day, I was washing my hands, and it scared me because my ring felt like it was going to fall off and go down the drain. I would hate to lose my rings. Plus, they've really been annoying me because they are so loose.
  • If you are looking at sizing down to somewhere in the size 4 range, I would guess that's going to be ok. I say that only because most people don't have fingers smaller than a size 4 - it's hard to even find them in a 3 range.

I personally just lost 12 lbs...from 152, down to 140 and my ring size did not change at all. I am hoping it doesn't change as I go lower as I am already at a 4 1/4 which is pretty tiny.
  • I'd wait until you're at goal, just to be sure. It would suck to size the ring down and then have it be loose again! Your ring size might change, or it might not, it's really hard to tell.
  • I got married this summer and had my engagement ring sized up from 6 3/4 to a 7. It is now loose on me and I have only lost just over 30 pounds (only I say, it wasn't easy!!) I want to lose another 70ish, ironically then I will have to have them sized down a lot I figure. I will hate the inbetween times as I am still a newlywed and in love with my rings lol
  • I would wait. When I married my ring size was a 5 3/4, and with a 15 pound change (less) my ring twirls and spins...it really needs to be sized down about a half a size, but I am waiting for my weight to get where I want it to be.
  • I would wait to have them sized... you never know what can happen.

FYI - Jewelry stores and places like Wal-Mart sell these little clips that go on the under side of the ring to take up the extra space... that way you can still wear them while you're losing.
  • I would probably wait too. My engagement ring was a 4 and my wedding band is smaller. I'm assuming I can still have them made smaller eventually? I was overweight when I had them sized the first time. You can of course have a ring sized more than once. My husband's aunt has lost like 100lbs so she had her wedding band sized at least twice.
  • You can always get sizing beads put in later, if you size down now and find the rings are a little too big.

Also .. if you size down now, your ring will probably fit well in the summer, since fingers and toes swell in warmer weather. That's why my ring is a 5 1/2 and not a 5 1/4
  • They used to have a thing you could get from the jeweler to put in your rings to make them smaller and make them stay upright. Not sure if they still make them but I remember them being a godsend.
