Healthy Weight Loss Rate?

  • So I know it's easier for heavier people to lose weight more quickly. So, if I'm 5'2" weighing 126 and my goal weight is 110, what would be a reasonable time period to lose 4 lbs? Would 4lbs in 2 weeks be a healthy rate to set as a mini goal?
  • I think its possible (sometimes the body drops weight quickly) but I wouldn't be discouraged if you don't make that mini-goal. My weight loss has slowed to just about 2 or 3 pounds a month for the past 3 months. I don't know if that rate is typical for someone getting close to goal.
  • Oh wow... That's discouraging.
  • I think 4lbs in 2 weeks is doable, but you’ll probably have to stay on plan the entire 14 days. I lost at a rate of 1.5-2lbs a week until I got to about 110lbs. My weight loss has been slower since then, but I think that’s because of my own lack of self control.

Also, if you’re just staring out you might lose weight faster, especially during the first week.

I actually think Matt was telling you that so you wouldn't be discouraged.

Look at it this way, which would be worse:

Setting a goal that would be difficult or impossible to meet, then beating yourself up when you don't get there,
    OR
Setting a difficult goal that you don't meet, but you can still be proud of whatever progress you do make?

It might be a matter of perspective.

Also, my $.02, since we're about the same height. My recent losses have slowed to about 1/2-1 pound per week. However, I've been on this crazy weight loss journey for almost a full year, so you might lose more in the beginning.

    Good luck!
  • I don't know because I did not start out small, but I have stalled out since October and am hopeful to lose a pound a month at this point. Four pounds in two weeks at your weight/height seems like a lot to me.

But that isn't to discourage you! Weight loss at any weight takes time and perseverance. You'll get there.
