Ideal Protein..ending week 3

  • Aloha!

So I am almost done with week three. I am doing good so far. I lost 3 lbs in my second week. Not nearly as much as my first week (11 lbs). but, I wasn't expecting to lose much anyways. I am super surprised how well I'm doing. I didn't think it would be this easy. I do have some days where a specific smell will get my head turning and my mouth watery but, then I reach for my water bottlle and take a drink. ha! Alot of my friends and family ask me why I started just before the holidays. I tell them, If I can get thru this holiday I will be able to get through anyday.

I had a quick question for you experienced IP eaters... Is it okay to mix your 5oz. of beef/chicken etc.. with your 8 oz. of fish/seafood? I was thinking if we half the portions we could make like a mixed plate with half beef and half seafood. In Hawaii we like to BBQ and I was thinking about grilling some steaks and various seafood. of course mine will have a different seasoning from the others. I don't want to do it if we are not allowed.

Well, Thanks for reading. Good Luck with your venture in getting and Staying Healthy

  • I haven't been advised one way or another but my protocol sheets says 5 oz of beef/chicken/pork or 7 oz. of fish/seafood. I think it would be fine to mix and match your meat like 2.5 oz beef with 3.5 oz fish or a similar combo. I think the big thing is to make sure you don't overdo it when you do mix and match. Congrats on your first 3 weeks. You are off to a great start.

I've done this. (That doesn't make it right; but I think it's reasonable.) Can you get Walden Farms products on Maui? I couldn't get them on the Big Island until I asked an organic foods store to carry them. If so, the barbeque sauce isn't bad. There is also at least one recipe in the second recipe sticky, and probably more. Just search the thread.

Another thought: Should be 7 ounces of seafood.
  • oops! my bad...typo. I meant 7 oz. of seafood. We do get WF here. Haven't tried the bbq sauce yet but, I am tempted. F.Y.I. The sesame ginger dressing is a great marinade for seafood. yumms! I'll just wait to hear from my coach to see if it's okay to mix our meats and seafood. I don't want to get off track.
    Mahalo!

  • My coach said it was fine - there will be days that I have 2 oz. of turkey or chicken with my lunch and 4 oz. of fish at dinner.
  • Is it okay to eat Kidney beans? I was wanting to make a chicken taco salad. without the shell of course.

no legumes. They are good for protein yes, but unfortunately high in carbs too.

I believe that others (Carla maybe?) have suggested using black soya beans...

yup, black soy beans rock. It's best if you marinade them in a vinegarette or cook them in something slightly acidic to get them to soften up. Even out of a can they are a bit too toothsome for me! But put them in a bowl with some tomato and vinegar and let them sit over night and they are all ready for taco salad.
  • Mahalo for your suggestions. )
  • I make "chili" with the black soya beans....of course, I use home canned tomatoes so I know there isn't sugar. Yes, it is heavier on the tomato, but I don't eat them much in the winter so I figure a bowl counts as my once a week veggie.
