where to buy Agave Nectar

  • My wife and I are both on the Sugar busters and love it. At last we are eating healthy. I have been able to find Agave nectar at a local health food store, but they have quite carrying it and have been unable to locate any more. I use to make whole wheat bread, which is delicious by the way. Can someone point me in the right direction of where to find this sweetner. Any help is appreciated.

    tks,
  • HOMEY, congrats to you and your DW for following this WOE! And welcome to our boards-there are quite a few Alabama people on our boards, so you are in good company

Tell your HFS that SWEET CACTUS FARMS is now being distributed once again. It's a long story, BUT, if they had carried CUCAMONGA, that was disconntinued longggg ago. The distributor of both brands went belly up (NATUREL) and when supplies ran out no one could find any (unless you came to my house where I have over 9 bottles in my stash).

Anyhow, SWEET CACTUS FARMS went and found their own source in Mexico and started bottling their own wild agave syrup(used to be blue agave), so now, it's easy to find, even in places that never carried it, you can get it now. The downside of it is, it's almost doubled in price-that supply and demnd thing. I use to pay $2.59 a bottle and now my HFS, who's the cheapest I've found yet, is $4.39 a bottle-but most other places are $4.69-$4.79 a bottle.

    Hope this helps!

  • I just ordered Agave from Golden Tropicals, online. With shipping it was about $32 for 6 bottles. A bit more than Deb pays, but I have not been able to find any locally, and am very willing to pay the extra just to get it.
  • What is agave nectar?
    Thanks in advance
  • It's a low glycemic liquid sweetener from a plant grown in Mexico. Blue agave is used in tequila. It's not as strong as honey, or as thick, and to me, tastes like light corn syrup. You can use it measure-for-measure in place of honey in recipes. It's gone way up in price recently though
  • Is this available in the HFS? I went to my local supermarket yesterday and was WAY surprised at the amount of stuff that I found there that I needed. I am very new to SugarBusters and am still reading the book in fact. I am looking forward to following this plan and getting to know everyone here on these boards.
  • I used to live in Orlando and swear I used to see it in Publix...anyone know, my bro and mother live there they could send it to me!!!
  • I'm in North Florida and we don't have it at our Publix (sure wish they did!). I've been getting mine through Golden Tropicals. My friend and I go halfs on a case of 6 bottles, so it doesn't hurt the pocket book quite as much

  • SCOOBY, you probably did see it at Publix. We have a big Publix not far from me with a large HF area and they had it - what a surprise it was to see it there, I bought all the bottles they had at the time!

MARSH, where in NOFLA are you??? We have a TON of Floridians on the board.

  • I'm almost positive I saw it at WalMart the other day.
  • I'll have to check Magruder's a locally-owned store that sells the usual groceries, but also not-so-usual groceries like whole-wheat pasta and Vernor's ginger ale. If I need to find something "exotic" Magruder's is the place to look and their prices aren't bad either!
  • Checked Magruder's last night--they didn't have it! The EPIC Quest continues...
