Foods To Avoid

  • What foods do I need to avoid or limit when doing a low carb program? How many carbs do I need to eat per day? Is there anything else that I count, calories, protein grams, fiber, fat grams, etc.

Thanks for all of your help.

  • Hi,
That all depends on the program your on. But basically, starchy vegetables like potatoes, corn, acorn squash, carrots, there's others but that's a start. Depending on your plan all flour or just white flour, sugar, cornstarch, any kind of sugar like corn syrup or things ending in ose. Milk, white rice, refined food. Fruits are limited, because their high carb and bananas are usually avoided. I'm sure I haven't listed everything, but that's the idea. Seems like a lot doesn't it? There is so much more you can eat though than say on a low fat diet. You feel full and satisfied and once you get all that sugar out of your system, you feel so good, it's hard to believe the difference. Some plans count carbs, some don't. Somersizers don't. Atkins has you eating 20 carbs a day on induction (the beginning). Some limit fat, some say to eat in moderation, some count it.

You should check out some books from the library and read up on the different plans. Or you could go to www.atkinscenter.com. It has all the information for that plan right there. www.lowcarb.com is another good place to look for plan comparision.

    Good luck!
