  • I haven't been able to run in a long time. Okay....it was more like a jog, but I ran tonight!
It wasn't far... probably half a kilometer.
I feel like I accoplished something huge! I never thought I'd be able to run at 300lbs. I've been inspired by a blog I've been reading.
I've always made excuses like "It will destroy my knees at this weight". But the contestants on the Biggest Loser do it. Ben Davis does it. Why not me?
    Why not indeed! Yahoo!
Just had to share with my chicks
  • Congratulations gumboot! That's terrific. I know what a great feeling running is. I started when I was a lot heavier than I am now, and I remember that great feeling. Keep at it and take it slow to avoid injuries and in no time you will be running a road race!
  • Hey, I know how you feel! I just starting running in 1-2 minute increments alternating with walking. (I started the Couch to 5k program and I'm tracking on the DailyMile website.) I don't think I've ever run for a prolonged period of time in my adult life -- ever! Short bursts for games or something, but never running just to run. I was amazed that I could do it! Congrats and keep it up!
  • awsome
    where are you in BC?
  • I'm in Langley, You?
  • Taking up running is one of the best decisions in my life. I wish I started earlier!

    Congrats

  • Congrats!
  • When I was running last year, it was one of the biggest self-confidence boosters I had found. To me, every single run felt like this huge accomplishment. Since I've been back to trying to lose weight, I haven't run yet, but seeing your excitement has made me want to start today!

Congrats on your accomplishment and thanks for the inspiration.
  • Congrats!!! I'm working my way up...only running very short distances right now - however, the first time I ran recently, I just couldn't stop smiling. I felt like a kid (albeit, larger and slower), and I can't wait to be able to go longer distances. Something about running after being heavy most of your life just kind of feels like freedom
  • From One Runner to Another- You CAN so Do this! Keep on Running!
  • Fantastic!!
  • Keep it up!
Running really rocks! Runners high, babyyyy..hehe.

Awesome!! I started jogging at 300 pounds too. It's a great feeling. Good job and keep it up.

This is how I felt too. I like to run just because I CAN! I feel like I'm in pretty good shape and have been for quite a well but I still feel really proud of myself every time I run.

I find running to be hard. I don't acclimate to it the way I acclimate to everything else. So I don't love it. But I do it every now and then just because I can. And I find cross training keeps up my ability to run. I can set it aside for a month or two and when I come back I can run faster/longer than when I left off.
  • that's AWESOME!!

you said you feel like you've accomplished something huge ---- YOU HAVE accomplished something huge...no doubt...that first step in this regard is HUUUUGGGEEE!!

and you got rid of the excuses - the story we tell ourselves why something "can't" (I hate that word!) be done...

I've heard stories of ultramarathon runners - people who run extreme distances...

some of these people never really ran a day in their lives and they just decided one day that they were gonna do it...

    how did they start??

    small steps...

one story I remember - a guy started out by just jogging to a pole that was maybe 50 yards away from his house...

then the next day - he went maybe 20 yards further...

and the next - a little more...

building upon the previous distance everyday - BUILDING MOMENTUM

maybe do it like they did - constant improvement - each day building upon the previous...and you might be shocked at what happens...

    Kick some ***!
