molasses and chocolate and butter, Oh My!

  • I had to put together a care package today for my daughter. She is a senior at university, and as she told me, she is "drowning in academia". Apparently this year is a lot of work, plus she works 30 hours a week. So I figured she needed a treat. I made her chocolate chip cookies, molasses cookies, and Russian tea cakes. These are her favorite cookies. I just feel the need to brag that I popped 1/2 of a molasses cookie into my mouth, passed the other half onto my son then tossed half of the cookies in a tin for her, and the rest into a jar for my husband and sons. I can smell them, and can hear them calling out to me, but cookies are just plain BAD. I mean..a treat is nice, but since I was making these as a special treat for her, I didn't even attempt to adjust the recipes. At 120 calories per cookie, this is a treat that could go south REALLY fast.

I can guarantee that 7 months ago, I would not have been able to do that. And honestly, I'm not really struggling with it.
  • Good for you
  • Wow, that's impressive. I think I can smell them from your post! What a great feeling.....to know that you are the master of your cookie domain!
  • Good Job! I hope you feel like this:
  • Big, big, big accomplishment. You are loads better than me. Baked home goods are my #1 enemy. You should feel very proud of yourself. What wonderful habits you have developed.
  • Good for you!! I know exactly how you feel. Baked goods are my weakness too. We are in control, not the food!
  • I'm impressed you could taste and THEN resist! I can't take that first taste!

I made treats that looked like baseballs for my family last night while we watched the Reds game. (Go Reds!) I ate 1/3 of one of the treats planning to stop with that. It wasn't even very good, but the frosting was amazing. So of course I had to have more which turned on the hunger receptors! I fought cravings the rest of the darn evening!
  • Talk about willpower!

I have a total sweet tooth. No way in the world would I have been able to do that. I love to bake and I just don't do it much anymore for that very reason. I am so looking forward to the holidays when I can bake to my hearts content and pass all the goodies on to others.

    Congratulations!

  • Yeah!It is so wonderful when we finally get it ~ long term commitment and working towards our goal is far better than 20 seconds of chocolatey goodness!Good for you!!
  • Nice will power! Whenever we bake goodies I always send them with hubby to his job to share with his coworkers because I know I WILL eat them eventually...it may take a few days but if they're around I will binge!
  • Good job!!!!!!!!!!!!!
