Pregnant....what now???

  • YAY!!!!! I just found out that me and DH are expecting our second bundle of joy! I am only 4 weeks, and I am praying all goes well. That is of course my biggest concern. My second concern is my weightloss...my OB says I continue the plan I am on and see continued success. That is all good and well, but I would also like to add in exercise. MY first pregnancy I did water aerobics, which was wonderful. I went with my mom, and we enjoyed great hanging out mom and daughter time in addition to a work out. The gym I go to here has water aerobics, but i don't know if they have music. I need music....I guess my question for you ladies is what types of exercise worked for you, AND how did the pregnancy impact your weightloss? I would love to gain no weight at all. I just want to know if that is realistic.
  • I walked a ton when I was pregnant...and with both my kids making very healthy food choices and walking...I gained like 15 pounds at the end each time and of course that went away when the little ones were born. My OB was GREAT about me losing weight/not gaining when pregnant. I think the thing that made the difference with my OB...is that I told her everything I was doing and how my eating had changed for the better. I loved being pregnant. Congrats to you and your family! And...prayers for a safe journey.
  • Thank you so much for your inspirational information! I will definitely keep that in mind. My OB had me on a calorie counting program before I got pregnant and I journal what I eat and he looks at it and tells me where I can improve. I mentioned how it would have to stop and he said it wouldn't I would just need to increase my calories a little bit. I am just hoping I can make it through the cravings AND that I am able to stay on track with working out.
  • I was overweight and "trying to lose" with both of my pregnancies, and my midwives let me continue to try losing weight. They did exactly what your OB is doing: they had me journal what I was eating and what I was doing (I too walked a TON when I was pregnant, right up to the end).

I think because I was already overweight, it was not an issue to try to continue, as long as I was eating well. They were always happy with my food journals. I honestly don't remember how much I gained with each one (it's been 14 and 9 years), but I do know that it was not a huge amount. Both of my kids were BIG babies: 9lbs 2ozs and 10lbs 3ozs (with NO gestational diabetes either).

You will be fine! And congrats!

Aww, I remember those days! If you're hungry by all means EAT. Make sure you have lots and lots of healthy choices available. Take some time to cut up bunches and bunches of fresh veggies if you can; keep them in a giant zip loc bag so you can just grab a handful when the hungry monster attacks!
